A YouTuber has proven that Yor Forger's supposedly “impossible” hairstyle from Spy x Family can actually be done. Yor has become an iconic heroine for fans of the hit series since her debut in the second volume of Spy x Family. However, her hair design was jokingly teased as impossible by author Tatsuya Endo in a joke panel from the third volume of the manga. However, one YouTuber has proven this wrong with a cool tutorial video.
YouTube creator Mei Yan shared a step-by-step Endo tutorial video on how to mimic Yor's hairstyle, and she proved that it's totally possible. Mei Yan uses the “crossover” method, which is considered the orthodox style and is highlighted in the second tutorial from the Spy x Family Vol. 3 joke page. Despite Franky's interjection in the manga that “I seriously doubt that would work”, Mei Yan was still able to perfectly copy Yor's appearance.
It's surprising to see that what initially seemed like a joke was eventually proven to be possible years after it was published. However, there are some details in Mei Yan's method that may hold the key to how she pulled it off.
Mei Yan makes a small but important change in Tatsuya Endo's instructions
This little tweak makes your hairstyle a reality.
Mei Yan basically recreates the tutorial from Spy x Family Vol. 3 perfectly, even with her hair down at the ends. However, she does have one notable change that is probably why she pulls it off. Before pulling the two halves of hair over her head as instructed in step three, she takes each section and twists them slightly. She then follows the instructions from that point on. This is a subtle change that most people watching the video may not notice, but it's probably the key to achieving this hairstyle.
“Structure is key to creating a great hairstyle and by making a few changes to the instructions, Mei Yan created the necessary strength to breathe life into Yor’s look.”
By slightly twisting her hair before crossing the two halves of her split hair, Mei Yan essentially reinforced the sections that would fall near her ears, preventing them from falling apart. This gives the hairstyle more structure. Although Endo's instructions don't necessarily call for this, Still a fascinating twist that allows what seemed fictional when it was created to become reality. Structure is key to creating a great hairstyle and by making a few changes to the instructions, Mei Yan created the necessary strength to breathe life into Yor's look.
Mei Yan's reimagining of Yor's appearance has fans wondering if the First Guide is possible.
Is the “Bend and Release” method feasible?
While the “cross-over” method for Yor’s hairstyle has proven to be effective, it has left fans wondering if the “original plan” can be replicated. The method essentially involves Yor dividing her hair into two, then curling two strands and hanging them over her ears before securing them with a headband. This is a much simpler method than the second tutorial, but with Mei Yan's option of twisting both strands, it's totally doable. However, without the two sections of hair crossing over the crown of the head, this hairstyle doesn't have much structure.
Whether it is possible or not, it is incredible to know that this tutorial that was once considered a prank is actually possible. This could be a game changer for Yor cosplayers as they have a new way to recreate her hairstyle that is almost identical to how she is depicted in the manga. This is a big mystery solved. Spy x Family fans when YouTuber Mei Yan proved once and for all that Yor's “impossible” style can actually be done.
