CloverWorks, the Japanese animation studio behind hits like Spy x Family, has released a brand new trailer for its upcoming theatrical film about three young men who gain psychic powers from a mysterious hedgehog-like creature. Fureru, which is due out this fall, also features the creative team behind Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day.
The show's official X account (formerly Twitter) has shared a new trailer for Fureru. The original trailer from earlier in July promoted the main creative team behind Fureru, including Tatsuyuki Nagai (director), Mari Okada (writer and director), and Masayoshi Tanaka (character designer). The trio—often referred to as the Super Peace Busters from Anohana's childhood group of friends—worked on the 2011 TV anime series and 2013 film, as well as The Anthem of the Heart and Her Blue Sky. This newly released trailer delves deeper into Fureru's main story, mixing supernatural elements with mature elements.

“Aki Onoda, Ryo Sobue, and Yuta Inohara are childhood friends who grew up on the same island,” the official description for the film reads. “Now in their 20s, the three of them begin living together in Takadanobaba, Tokyo. Although they lead different lives, working part-time at a bar, selling at a real estate company, and studying at a fashion design school, they are always connected by heart. This is because of the Fureru, a mysterious creature brought from the island, who connects them with a mysterious power similar to telepathy, despite their different interests and personalities. When they touch each other, their words flow into each other without them saying a word. The friendship between the three, bound by ‘touch,’ is supposed to continue forever… Until they discover another hidden power of touch.’”
Yoasobi, the Japanese pop duo best known for composing the opening theme song “Idol” for Oshi no Ko Season 1, is producing the main theme song for Fureru, titled “Monotone.” TeddyLoid, a Japanese music producer and DJ who worked on Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club and Sonic x Shadow Generations, is composing the soundtrack with Masaru Yokoyama, who has worked on popular anime series such as Mashle and Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night.
The main voice cast for Fureru includes Kentaro Maeda as Yūta, Ren Nagase as Aki, and Ryota Bando as Ryo. Additional voices include Haruka Shiraishi as Juri Kamozawa, Manaka Iwami as Nana Asakawa, Sarutoki Minagawa as Wakita, Kenjiro Tsuda as Kohei Shimada, and many others. Many of these voice actors have appeared in previous Super Peace Busters films.
Fureru will be released in Japanese theaters on October 4, 2024. A North American release has yet to be announced. However, Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day is available to stream on Crunchyroll. The Spy x Family TV anime is also available on Crunchyroll.
