Damian Desmond is an increasingly complex, sympathetic character nurtured by the most important Ostanian figures in Spy Family, But this reveals a grim reality for the young son. Damian spends his early chapters as more of a bully to Anya Forger than anything else, with his childish behavior significantly hindering Loid's plans to form a meaningful connection with the Desmond family. But much of Damian's behavior, especially his recent cravings for adventure, shows a sense of unease with the Desmond family's home life in Spy x Family.
With Damian Desmond's position as one of Loid Forger aka Agent Twilight's main targets to meet Donovan, it is important that he matures as a well-integrated individual and is sociable enough to spend time with Anya. Furthermore, He is a six year old who deserves at least a good childhood. It was something his butler was determined to provide for him even when his parents often showed indifference.
The sad truth is that Damian Desmond has a troubled family life. He didn't want to see his mother, brother or father as much as possible.
The latest chapter of Spy x Family shows Damian reluctantly staying home.
Desmond family pays the price
In chapter #104 of Spy x Family, Damian Desmond sets out on an adventure to make archaeological discoveries in unexplored regions, promising a Stella Star to the students of Eden Academy who unearth them. This could easily be considered a filler chapter, but at many points, Damian talks about not wanting to go homespecifically not having to win the Stella Star first, but even towards the end, when he wants to go to a Berlint restaurant instead of eating at home.
Damian's desire to not go home in chapter #104 alludes to his family also avoiding him, alluding to the darker undertones of Spy x Family. There are plenty of precedents for Damian's discomfort, namely the precious few times his father visits him in public in chapter #37, the pressure to not tarnish Desmond's name in Spy x Family, and his other troubling interactions with his family.
This includes Melinda's dark and menacing inner monologue upon learning that Damian is okay after the Red Circus Arc in chapter #75, and Damian's apparent avoidance of her in chapter #76. Finally, Damian feels more pressure and distance from his brother, Demetrius Desmond, as shown in Spy x Family chapter #93.
Melinda and Donovan also had a seemingly indifferent reaction to Anya hitting Damian. They were more concerned about him upholding the family honor than anything else.
What this means for Damian in Spy x Family remains unclear, but it's clear that the Desmond family has changed a lot over time. Specifically, Donovan became less and less interested in his children. Anya also notices this, noting Melinda's strange behavior, Demetrius' strangely silent mind possibly hinting at Anya's inability to read some of Desmond's thoughts in Spy x Family, etc. Another character however is concerned about Damian Desmond, a fascinating case study.
Jeeves shows increasing devotion as butler to the Desmond family
Damian's servant is always there for him.
Jeeves, Damian Desmond's butler, is present on many of the boy's outings, including an archaeological dig, and is commented by Emile and Ewen's servants as being too indulgent of the boy in chapter #104 of Spy x Family. He was keenly aware of Damian's avoidance of his home and his mother Melinda.while he still encouraged the boy to give his mother a chance.
This leads to intriguing speculations, such as a possible family connection between Jeeves and Melinda; his dark hair may be a clue, suggests that he is likely Melinda's brother and therefore Damian's uncle.but this is pure speculation about Spy x Family. Jeeves has a limited appearance in Spy x Family. However, he did spend time with Damian before, reminding him that Melinda had prepared the meal he ate in chapter #76 before returning to another residence.
In chapter #93 of Spy x Family, Damian talks about being told that Donovan used to spend more time with Demetrius, with Jeeves appearing in a flashback, suggesting that he was likely the one who confided this to Damian.
What's also interesting is that Damian confides in Jeeves, or at least trusts him with his secrets, such as his obvious feelings for Anya, and how agonized he was about his outfit at the end-of-term party from chapters #95 and #96. Even if Damian have a troubled family life Spy x FamilyHe has Jeeves to rely on as a butler and confidant.
