Spy x Family Part 2 Ep. 3 “Mission and Family/The Elegant Man/The Heart of a Child/Awakening” is as complex as the title suggests. Or maybe not. Even though it’s as complicated as the title, the episode’s layout isn’t too complicated. This volume is essentially 4 stories combined into a 4-part volume. One of those stories is not like the others, as it is a very dark and serious Cold War style spy story.

Spy x Family Part 2 Ep. 3 “Mission and family/Elegant man/Children’s heart/Wake up”: Summary
[nội dung được nhúng] Don’t worry, Anya. This episode shows you in all your adorable glory.
Normally, this would be where I would give you a spoiler-filled plot summary of Spy x Family season 2 Ep. 3 “Mission and family/The elegant slave/The heart of a child/Awakening”. All 4 parts of it. However, here is the spoiler-free version of my usual reviews. So instead, you’ll all get the official synopsis from Crunchyroll. You can check that out below:
Yuri is doing a great job with the Secret Police. His mission today is to investigate a former newspaper reporter suspected of selling slanderous articles about Ostania to Westalis. Anya’s favorite cartoon hero Bondman shows off his elegant spy moves!!
Spy x Family Season 2 Ep. 3 “Mission and family/Elegant man/Children’s heart/Awakening”: Good things
Can you believe that this is “good” Yuri?
For fans of Cold War spy thrillers, Spy x Family Season 2 Ep. 3 “Mission and Family/The Elegant Slave/The Heart of a Child/Awakening” is your cup of tea. However, as you can see from the screenshots above and below, Yuri Briar is the star here. In fact, it was SSS that took the spotlight this episode instead of WISE for once, with Yuri Briar’s work coming into sharp focus. We not only see how he goes about his job (very passionately), but also how he justifies himself for being a secret police officer. Needless to say, this is quite dark by the usual standards of this anime/manga. But then again, Tatsuya Endo likes to delve into the dark and gritty details of a Cold War spy thriller for this story. So this episode is really going to be on par with that one.
It’s not all dark and edgy spy thriller action though in Spy x Family Season 2 Ep. 3 “Mission and family/The elegant slave/The heart of a child/Awakening”. The last 3 parts of the episode are basically a slice-of-life comedy. In fact, “The Elegant Bondman” provides a great example of in-universe fiction. This is actually an episode of Anya’s favorite anime: Spy Wars, which tells us what she saw when she watched it. We even get her and Loid’s reactions to the episode at the end of the segment, both of which are absolutely hilarious. Then we have the final 2 segments of pure and utter nonsense.
It’s the blend of dark spy thriller and slice-of-life comedy that makes Spy x Family season 2 Ep. 3 “Mission and family/The elegant slave/The heart of a child/Awakening” good. It’s like dark chocolate in anime form.
Spy x Family Season 2 Ep. 3 “Mission and family/Elegant man/Children’s heart/Awakening”: Good things
Remember, kids: this is an example of a very unhealthy polyamorous relationship. Don’t be like Bondman.
Honestly, if there are any complaints about Spy x Family season 2 Ep. 3 “Mission and family/The elegant slave/The heart of a child/Awakening”, perhaps about the composition of the episode. This is really a main episode featuring Yuri and a bunch of additional comedy. Fans who have one continuous plot per episode probably won’t like this format very much. That said, it’s hard to see where else the animators could have placed the following three segments. These are all very short additional chapters of the manga or extras that give off a classic feel. If there’s a good place to put those bonus chapters, it’s probably in this type of mosaic volume.
