Image via DoReMi Singer Azumi Inoue’s official website announced on Saturday that her 40th anniversary concert, scheduled to take place at Nakano Zero Hall in Tokyo that day, has been cancelled. Kōsuke Imao, her husband and a representative of DoReMi’s agency, explained that during the rehearsal, Inoue complained of a headache and then fainted. She was taken to the emergency room and, after being diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage, she underwent immediate surgery.
Inoue’s website later posted an update to report that the surgery was a success and that she plans to conduct follow-up and rehabilitation. DoReMi thanked the concert staff, the medical team and the emergency ambulance, as well as the fans who sent messages of support. The agency will report any updates on Inoue’s health.
Inoue was born in Kanazawa City in Ishikawa Prefecture and made her professional debut in 1983. She is arguably most famous for contributing the ending theme song “Kimi o Nosete”(Carrying You) to Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s 1986 film Laputa: Castle in the Sky and later the theme song and other songs for their 1988 film My Neighbor Totoro. She later contributed visual songs to Miyazaki and Ghibli’s 1989 film Kiki’s Delivery Service.
Inoue also performed the theme songs for the anime Guyver: Out of Control, Yadamon, and Before Green Gables. Her daughter Yuyu started her professional singing career in 2012 and has released 5 singles and 2 albums.
