Japanese singer and songwriter Sayuriwho performed theme songs for anime such as Lycoris Recoil and Scum's Wish, has passed away at the age of 28.
The news was announced on the singer's (formerly) X Twitter account by her husband and fellow musical artist Amaarashi perform. According to the statement, Sayuri passed on September 20 JST.
In a repost, Amaarashi said that Sayuri was struggling with an illness.
Sayuri began performing as a teenager, with her Apple Music profile noting that she dropped out of high school to perform as part of an acoustic duo LONG. She received the Grand Prix at the Yamaha Music Revolution competition in 2012.
The female singer officially debuted in 2015 with “Mikazuki”, the ending theme of Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace. Her first full album, Mikazuki no Kokai, was released in 2017.
In addition to “Mikazuki”, anime audiences must have recognized the distinctive vocals from songs such as “It's Like a Little Light” (ending theme of Erased), “Moon & Bouquet” (ending theme of Fate/EXTRA Last Encore ), “Parallel Lines” (ending theme of Scum's Wish), “Sekai no Himitsu” (ending theme of Edens Zero) and “Hana no Tou” (ending theme of Lycoris Recoil). Sayuri also cooperated with MY FIRST STORY for the “Dawn” opening of Golden Kamuy Part 2.
Sayuri's website profile describes the late artist as “a 2.5D tandem singer/songwriter who strums her acoustic guitar while singing, as “Sanketsu-girl” (hypoxic girl). -a symbol of the “Sanketsu generation” who feel inferior and only have a degree of superiority equal to their own ability to perceive and value differences from others.”
