Singer Sayuri's official X (formerly Twitter) account announced on Friday that Sayuri passed away on September 20. She was just 28 years old. Her relatives and close associates held a private funeral.
Sayuri's husband, musician Amaarashi, said on his X/Twitter account that Sayuri was battling a chronic illness.
On July 25 earlier this year, Sayuri announced that she would be taking a hiatus due to functional dysphonia, a condition that causes someone's voice to sound strained or uneven for no reason. physiologically or neurologically evident. At the time, she said she was seeing a speech therapist and a vocal coach, but she felt frustrated by her inability to express herself and connect with the world.
Sayuri has been active as a singer-guitarist in the local scene in her hometown of Fukuoka since her teenage years, forming the musical duo LONGTAL and performing in music venues small and busking. When she was 19 years old, she made her big solo debut with the single “Mikazuki” in August 2016, which was also the ending theme song for the anime Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace. Since then, she has performed theme songs for other anime, with some of her famous anime songs including “Hana no Tō” (Tower of Flowers) from the 2022 Lycoris Recoil, “Heikōsen” ( Parallel Lines) from Scum's Wish in 2017, “Sore wa Chiisa na Hikari no yō na”(That Was Like a Small Light) from ERASED in 2016 and “Kōkai no Uta”(Song of Regret) from the fourth season of My Hero AcadeKaren in 2019, along with a few other names.
Sayuri married musician and singer Amaarashi on March 18 earlier this year.
