Warning: Spoilers for chapter Dandadan #129A controversial plot in Jump Shonen‘S Taste is working again after being sidetracked many times. On top of that, the series’ most ridiculous character, Turbo Granny, is taking the lead, which is fitting since she’s the reason for the series’ plot in the first place.
Although officially published on Shonen Jump+ in Japan and Manga PLUS worldwide, Shonen Jump still features Yukinobu Tatsu’s Dandadan on its app and website.
Back in chapter #9 of Dandadan, the once hostile yokai Turbo Granny blackmailed Okarun and his friends into sparing her life by stealing Okarun’s “family jewelry.” Of course, she lost possession of them, and although the first one was recovered soon after, the second one has since disappeared.
After several returns, the search for the second gem finally continues in the latest installment, chapter #129. The gem was at the local police station, but a currently undisclosed entity recently received it. And since Okarun and Momo tried to get more information from the police a few chapters ago without success, the two tasked Turbo Granny, whose consciousness is trapped inside a cat statue, to infiltrate Enter the police station and pretend to be a lost person. found entry to search police records to see who claimed it.
The hunt for the ultimate R-rated ‘Jewels’ of Okarun continues
The first time Okarun and his friends thought they had found the second gem was in chapters #63 and 64 of Dandadan when an object that looked like it suddenly appeared. However, the target turns out to be something completely different and opens up a completely different story with new character and alien Vamola. That story only recently ended after the subsequent failure of a major alien invasion in an all-out war, almost culminating in Vamola’s death.
Much later in chapter #123, a new soon-to-be gang member named Rin Sawaki points Okarun in the direction of said local police station. However, like Vamola, Rin’s tragedy quickly draws Okarun and his friends to help her with something completely different over the next few chapters. Now that Rin’s problem is resolved, Okarun and the group can focus on gathering more information about his second gem.
Based on past precedent, it’s likely that whatever Turbo Granny finds at the police station will send Okarun and the gang on another goose chase. Regardless, it’s still a big deal that Turbo Granny will play a more significant role as she’s mostly just a comedic character who makes humorous comments in poses silly. The only time she played a more significant role recently was when she briefly helped Okarun train to fight yokai composers in Dandadan chapter #57.
Dandadan continues to be Shonen Jump+’s most ridiculous Manga
For now, fans will have to wait another week before the story continues, as the series is taking a rare but well-deserved break. Yukinobu Tatsu was somehow able to stick to the same rigorous weekly schedule as everyone else. Jump Shonen even though he draws at least one story that has amazing detail in every chapter and isn’t even in the main magazine. Notwithstanding, Taste The twist of chapter #130 will definitely be as ridiculous as everyone expected, if not more so.
