Shonen Jump need to fill the void left by One Piece, My Hero Academia, and Jujutsu Kaisen, and they're about to make their biggest push yet. Three new manga series will be serialized in September, and in a surprise twist, Welcome to the Devil School, Iruma-Kun's Osamu Nishi! will team up with Act-Age artist Shiro Usazaki on a new fantasy story, Madan no Ichi.
Shonen Jump has found itself in dire need of talent. 2024 marks the end of My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen, and with One Piece ending in a few years, the magazine needs to find something that can stand up to them and attract readers in the near future, otherwise the magazine will suffer its worst decline in readership since the 90s.
As reported by Manga Mogura RE on X, one of the new manga series that will debut in Shueisha's flagship manga magazine is the work of an author who used to work for a major competitor, as Iruma-kun is currently published in Akita Shonen's Weekly Shonen Champion magazine.
Shonen Jump's Next Potential Hit Unites a Great Writer and Artist
An amazing combination is waiting to happen
Iruma-kun is one of the biggest manga outside of Shonen Jump, but the artist behind Madan no Ichi also has a formidable resume. Shiro Usazaki co-created Act-Age, a successful manga that ran in Shonen Jump from 2018 to 2020, and was canceled due to the arrest of author Tatsuya Matsuki.
When combined with Usazaki's long-awaited return, Nishi Osamu's debut Shonen Jump has the potential to be the next big hit that the magazine is waiting for.
