Golden Kamuy Satoru Noda’s ice hockey manga Dogsred is joining Shonen Jump’s roster of simulpub series.
The official X account, formerly known as Twitter, of Shonen Jump shared a post announcing Noda’s seinen sports manga Dogsred will be released simultaneously in both the West and Japan. The series will officially join Shonen Jump’s catalog of simulation series on November 8, with the latest chapters of the English translation available for free on publisher VIZ Media’s website.
Dogsred began serialization in Weekly Young Jump on July 27, 2023. The series is set in 2010 and follows the career of middle school figure skater Ro Shirakawa, who comes close to winning the gold medal at the All Japan Children’s Championship. But Ro suddenly flew into a rage after performing, leading to his immediate disqualification from the competition and a lifetime ban from all future figure skating events. Ro moved to the town of Tomakomai shortly after the incident and met the Genma brothers, Koichi Genma and Keiichi Genma, who introduced him to the fast-paced and brutal sport of ice hockey.
Satoru Noda revives his debut manga with Dogsred
This is not the first ice hockey series that Noda has released. Dogsred is notable as a relaunch of author Golden Kamuy’s debut manga, Supinamarada!, which launched back in July 2011 in Weekly Young Jump. Unfortunately, the series did not achieve the same level of popularity as his later works. Noda’s editor then advised him to discontinue Supinamarada! after the sixth volume, and the mangaka went on to complete his debut manga in November 2012. Despite its commercial failure, the success of Noda Golden Kamuy’s follow-up sought to attract reignited public interest in ice hockey manga, contributing to its revival. with the release of Dogsred.
At the time of writing, Dogsred has only been published for less than five months but some fans are already worried that it could face a troubled production schedule due to the creator’s health and health issues. chronic pain problem.
