This sketch shows that the original design of the Red Haired Yonko was still a serious man, with a scar over his left eye. The biggest difference is the hairstyle, which completely changes him. He looks like he's been gelling his hair and you can even see that he's slightly bald.
Some fans have commented that Shanks' original appearance in One Piece resembles the pirate Kuro, captain of the Black Cat Pirates.
