When a third of your episode is taken up by the main character standing on the sidelines, commenting on the territorial error, it’s safe to say the pace has stopped considerably. There were some lovely things in this episode, but the only legitimate thing that happened was that the cast changed locations. The monster designs and scenes are adorable as Shangri-La Frontier encapsulates the wide-open sense of wonder that comes with discovering something new about how the game works. But everything seems extremely superficial and it’s too bad because the episode started off strong.
The episode begins from Arthur’s perspective; she has a specific goal and probably needs Sunraku’s help. Maybe she knows more about this game and how it works. Could there be some legitimate drama going on with a player she interacted with, or would her former teammates stab her in the back because she suddenly doesn’t share their views? That’s exciting, but when will the show start? Psyger’s interactions in this episode were so cute. So happy for her for finally sending that friend request. The contrast between her cute schoolgirl actions and her appearance like a giant suit of armor is adorable. Will this interaction lead to anything? Doubtful, especially when you consider how cautious Sunraku is. This was one of the weaker episodes and will hopefully improve next week.
