The future of the Sorcerer King

Based on the manga of the same name by Hiroyuki Takei, Shaman King is a shounen anime series about the rise of Yoh, a boy who hopes to one day become the next Shaman King. The first anime adaptation of Shaman King debuted in 2001 and included some unavoidable major changes from the source material, as the manga was still ongoing at the time of its release. The Shaman King reboot, which debuted in 2021 and ended a year later, notably has a more manga-like plot while retaining some of the voice actors from the previous adaptation.

Shaman King: Flowers takes place more than a decade after the events of Shaman King and focuses on Yoh’s heir, Hana Asakura, a young shaman who has only recently awakened her spiritual potential. The series synopsis reads: “Hana Asakura realizes that being the son of Yoh and Anna Asakura isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and boredom makes him itchy for any form of excitement. But when a war comes straight to him.” at his door, it was from the place he least expected it—his family? Asakura’s battle for supremacy begins!

Shaman King: Flowers premieres January 9, 2024. Bridge’s Shaman King reboot is available to stream on Netflix.
