Manga artist Jin Kobayashi, who is best known for his romantic comedy series School Rumble, has returned to social media for the first time in nearly four years. He recently updated his official X (formerly Twitter) account with a new illustration of Kenji Harima, the male protagonist of the manga and anime School Rumble.
Although Kobayashi has created a number of works since authoring School Rumble, this title is by far his most famous work among most fans. The new artwork, seen below, depicts the male protagonist, Kenji Harima – a former high school student who committed motorbike driving – with his signature sunglasses, mustache and goatee. X's post immediately attracted a lot of attention, with fans responding enthusiastically to the sketch with comments such as “Legend returns” and “It's [School Rumble] is completed, but I wonder if there will be a sequel or a new generation of school-related works drawn from scratch?

Plot of the Manga and Anime series School Rumble

The story revolves around the love triangle between Tenma Tsukamoto, Oji Karasuma and Kenji Harima. While Tenma struggles to confess his romantic feelings to Karasuma, who is completely unaware of her attraction to him, Harima, an up-and-coming, headstrong yet clumsy manga artist, also had equally difficulty confessing his own feelings for Tenma. His efforts to make his love for her known are continually thwarted, often in oddly humorous or melodramatic ways.
Kobayashi began drawing manga during his college years, School Rumble becoming his first serialized work. He has previously stated that Harima is his favorite character and that approximately 30% of high school delinquents are mirror images of himself. The author even made a few cameos in the anime School Rumble, voicing the characters Sailor F – a crew member on a fishing boat who only appears briefly at the end of the series – and of narrator in a particular segment of the series. First special OVA episode. Along with the first anime season, School Rumble went on to inspire a second 26-episode sequel anime titled School Rumble: Semester 2 (2006), as well as three separate PlayStation games.

School Rumble could still have a sequel with adult characters
While it currently appears that School Rumble will never return, as 15 years have passed since the manga ended, the idea is not completely out of the realm of possibility. Although Kobayashi has given no indication that he is currently working on a sequel, he did state in 2009 that he would like to draw more of the series when he has time, exploring the characters as he matured in a seinen publication rather than Shonen.
The original School Rumble manga was licensed for publication in North America by Kodansha USA, describing: “She… is a second-year high school student with a single burning question: Is the boy she likes really pay attention to her? He… is the school's most notorious juvenile delinquent and he suddenly realizes something shocking: He has a huge love, and now he must tell her how he feels. how.
