Sanrio's beloved Hello Kitty and Friends have had several official crossovers since their inception, most recently Jujutsu Kaisen, Hatsune Miku, Junji Ito's horror series Tomie, and even Care Bears. Now, a brand new crossover has been introduced with Riyoko Ikeda's landmark shojo series, The Rose of Versailles.
The new Sanrio-Rose of Versailles crossover marks the latter's welcome return to anime, with a new film being animated by MAPPA, the studio behind the likes of Attack on Titan, Chainsaw Man, Yuri on Ice, and Jujutsu Kaisen. With the Rose of Versailles film slated for release in early 2025, the production team recently revealed artwork in collaboration with Sanrio, featuring Hello Kitty, My Melody, Dear Daniel, and Pocchaco reimagined as the film's main cast, as seen below.

Official Sanrio Crossover Event for Rose of Versailles Recreates Oscar, Marie Antoinette, and More
Hello Kitty, of course, one of Sanrio's biggest stars, plays Rose of Versailles' protagonist Oscar Francois de Jarjayes, aka Lady Oscar—a loyal, hard-working commander of the Royal Guards who chooses to live the life of a man. Hello Kitty's boyfriend Dear Daniel plays Oscar's childhood friend and love interest, Andre Grandier. Hello Kitty's best friend My Melody cosplays as the vivacious yet naive Marie Antoinette, whom Oscar is tasked with protecting at Versailles. Finally, Pochacco—a white dog inspired by Snoopy—dresses as Hans Axel von Fersen, the Swedish count who falls in love with Marie Antoinette.
The official website for The Rose of Versailles states that Sanrio collaboration merchandise will also be available soon, presumably modeled after the “plushie-style” artwork featured on the site. A specific release date for the merchandise has yet to be announced; however, given the strong presence of Sanrio and especially Hello Kitty not only in Japan but also globally, including in the United States, fans can expect these goods to eventually make their way to the United States.
