The newly opened website for Sand Land: The Series has revealed that the show will launch on Disney+ on March 20 worldwide.
According to Oricon News, the first seven episodes of the show will air together that day. The remaining episodes will be released weekly.
Sand Land: The Series is a slightly altered version of the movie Sand Land released in August 2023 in Japan. It is described as including previously unavailable cuts, “famous scenes” from the manga, and new story content that takes place after the film.
Sand Land is based on Dragon Ball’s 2000 manga series Akira Toriyama. It is 14 chapters long in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump and is collected into a single volume. Viz Media describes the post-apocalyptic manga as follows:
In the distant future, war has devastated the entire Earth, leaving only a barren wasteland where the water supply is controlled by a greedy king. In search of a long-lost lake, Chief Rao enlists the help of the demon king… and captures the king’s son, Beelzebub, and his assistant, Thief. The trio unexpectedly set off together across the desert, facing dragons, bandits and their most dangerous enemy… the King’s own army! It’s traveling adventure and tanking action in this new story from Dragon Ball Z creator Akira Toriyama!
The comic book series has also inspired an upcoming video game coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S , and Steam on April 26.
