The announcement comes after the dark fantasy isekai series had its premiere at Anime Expo on July 3, followed by the launch of a world tour in various locations including Paris, Austin, Mannheim and Toronto, ending in Tokyo on October 1, with the cast in attendance. . The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 3 was originally announced in 2019 at Crunchyroll Expo. The series faced backlash with its second season, with many negative reviews from fans of both the anime and the original light novel series. The disappointment further exacerbated an already significant six-month delay, which took the release from October 2021 to April 2022, leading to a three-year hiatus after the first season.
Season 3 marks some major changes in the production team with Hitoshi Haga taking on the new role of director, taking over from Takao Abo and Masato Jinbo from previous seasons. Keigo Koyanagi continues to write the script, while Alfredo Sirica and Natalie Jeffrey join Kevin Penkin in composing the music. The show’s animation was produced at Kinema Citrus, in collaboration with Korean studio, DR Movie.
