Warning: Contains spoilers for Rick and Morty: The Anime Episode 2!Rick and Morty: Anime Rick and Morty has officially brought back one of the main series' most controversial couples. There have been many notable relationships throughout Rick and Morty, ranging from the really sweet to the downright toxic. However, there's one relationship that stands out as the most controversial in the entire series, and it's been brought back, hinting at a new future between Tammy and Birdperson.
In episode 2 of Rick & Morty: The Anime, titled “Fighting Mother,” Tammy officially returns after being presumed killed in season 4’s “Star Mort: Rick-turn of the Jerri.” She’s even given the same cybernetic enhancements she gave Birdperson after his “death.” It’s a surprising return for a character who caused a lot of controversy among fans for betraying Birdperson at their wedding. However, her encounter with her ex-husband in the post-credits scene makes the possibility of their romance rekindling all the more plausible.
The final scene sees Tammy confront Birdperson and their daughter as she smiles, hinting that the two may get back together.
Tammy Returns to the Rick and Morty Multiverse, But She Looks Different
Can she really create romance this time?
Tammy still looks basically the same as she did when she last appeared in the season 4 finale. However, even with her cybernetically enhanced body allowing her to fight Space Beth, there's a key twist in their battle that hints that something might be changing for the character. When the Galactic Federation comes under attack, Beth spares Tammy's mercy by saying she needs to check on her family, which she thinks Tammy won't understand.
“Even Birdperson seemed willing to give her a second chance when he first showed her their daughter.”
This leads to a complete existential crisis for Tammy as she lets Space Beth's words seep into her. After all, she gave up her peaceful life for the Galactic Federation, so it's entirely possible that she'd want to rekindle her relationship with her ex. Even Birdperson seems willing to give her a second chance, as he shows her their daughter for the first time. Given how sincere she appears in the final shot of the episode, it seems like she's willing to give love another chance.
Can Tammy return to the main show?
Don't expect Tammy x Birdperson to make a comeback anytime soon.
Despite returning in Rick and Morty: The Anime, the chances of Tammy returning in the main series are very low. It's pretty clear that the events in the anime are completely separate from the Harmon and Roiland series. While there were hints that the show could secretly take place in the same universe, it was bogged down by evidence that it could potentially take place in another parallel universe. With that said, Tammy's return and her new relationship with Birdperson will likely be anime-only.
Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean she can't come back. The anime gave Dan Harmon a way out if he and the writers wanted to bring her back, so it's not out of the question. Until that day comes, though, Rick and Morty: Anime has officially revived one of the show's most controversial couples, and this will be where this new love will take place until the main show brings Tammy back.
