Adult Swim’s YouTube channel released a short teaser video for the upcoming Rick and Morty: The Anime series on Monday.
The anime will be an original production, incorporating themes and events from the main character Rick and Morty animated series.

Takashi Sano, known for Tower of God, both wrote and directed the 10-episode series at Telecom Animation Film, the studio that produced Lupine III and Shenmue the Animation.
Sano previously directed the animated short “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider” and “Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil).” Sola Entertainment is producing the film, with Maki Nagano, Max Nishi and Takenari Maeda serving as producers. Animation producer Yu Kiyozono and production assistant Yuuki Kakizoe also participated.
Executive producers Jason DeMarco and Joseph Chou lead the production team. Arisa Matsuzawa is the art director and Makiko Kojima is the color designer. Sou Ki is the CGI director, with Kaori Kobayashi as special effects supervisor, Tatsuo Noguchi as compositing director, and Yoshihiro Kasahara as editor. Kōichi Iizuka is the sound director and Tetsuya Takahashi is composing the music at Terra-Musica.
The OC from Code of Zero contributed to composing the opening theme song “Love is Entropy” with Cameron Earnshaw. OtoneZ writes lyrics, composes music and arranges the song.
The series is scheduled to premiere on both Adult Swim and HBO Max, and air on Adult Swim Canada.
Studio DEEN previously produced the animated short “Samurai & Shogun” for Rick and Morty, which aired on Toonami and online in March 2020. A sequel was streamed by Adult Swim in November 2021.
In October 2021, Adult Swim aired the 11-minute animated short “The Great Yokai Battle of Akihabara” for Rick and Morty, which also aired on Toonami.

The animated short film “Rick and Morty vs. The eight-minute Genocider” was streamed by Adult Swim in July 2020.
