Yury is my job! originally written and illustrated by Miman.
Although eye-catching, Crunchyroll’s title Yury is my job! unfortunately created the false impression that the series didn’t take itself seriously or that the yuri aspect was superficial, much like the yaoi look in Ouan Host Club. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Not only is there genuine romance throughout, but there are also actual relationships that develop in season one, albeit scattered near the end. Of course, the romance between a couple that fans care about most is only hinted at, which is only further complicated by the complex and confusing mind games that stem from the series’ eponymous work. story.
The anime’s title alludes to a job as a waitress at a coffee shop. The movie advertised it as yuri because the all-female staff performed an act in which they had cute and suggestive intimate interactions with each other to show their customers’ affection. There is even a “final” type of relationship, which entails a small ceremony involving matching necklaces, in which the two waitresses become each other’s “big” and “little” sisters. However, these relationships are not legal. In fact, romance is actually forbidden between the waitresses, and the season finale even deals with inappropriately revealing clothing to keep customers PG.
Yuuri’s relationships in Yuuri Is My Job!
Created by Passione & Studio Lings, based on the original manga by Miman
Unfortunately, yuri’s only official relationship is seen in a flashback, although Miman’s original manga goes much further. Through this flashback, viewers discover why the salon’s servers are forbidden from being intimate with each other. The unique relationship that formed between the two employees was naturally quite messy and almost resulted in the salon being permanently closed, hence the strict regulations. However, the main enforcer of today’s rules, in her strict control of her girls, has learned that one of her girls is in love with the waitress and main character, Hime Shiraki. Initially, viewers mistakenly believe that these legitimate romantic feelings are nothing more than a shy girl’s obsession with her only true friend. However, later episodes prove the opposite.
The relationship that anime viewers are most interested in is between the aforementioned Hime and Mitsuki Yano. Although it has not been confirmed whether the two have romantic feelings for each other or not, the feelings between them are quite strong as they actually knew each other before and their relationship ended in disaster. This dynamic is further fueled by the order in which they both realize who the other is, and even when the truth finally comes out in an episodic flashback, the situation only becomes more complicated due to the unique format part of the salon where the waitresses dress. a show for their customers. Naturally, most of Hime and Mitsuki’s interactions happen while at work, so no one can be sure whether they’re just acting or sincere.
Like the best anime featuring mind games, these layers go much deeper than whether the other is acting or not, as other variables are gradually introduced. In fact, the two female leads eventually begin reenacting previous arguments from the last time they saw each other years before, creating a strange fusion of past and present. These uncertainties persist throughout the season, even in the final 12th episode, when everyone seems to be on the same page for once. However, anime viewers will only encounter complex misunderstandings and questions of authenticity if they can get past the gimmicky feeling of the highly misleading title. Yury is my job!
