Mushoku Tensei Season 2 episode 9 is probably one of the most interesting episodes. It does one thing – articulates the narrative narrative and lays the groundwork for future world building. And it does that while keeping you interested throughout this dialogue-heavy section.
Before we go further into the review, I want to extend my sincerest apologies to all of my readers who I unintentionally spoiled in the previous episode review.
I initially assumed that the previous episode pretty much omitted the context that took place between the seasons and listed them out. It turned out to be a bit premature as this episode portrays some of those points in runtime.
The episode begins by highlighting Sylphy/Fitz’s growing interest in Rudeus. As Pursena and Rudeus interacted happily, Fitz found their interaction somewhat flirtatious. This escalating fixation was evident to both Ariel and Luke, who then asked Sylphy about it.
Interestingly, Sylphy has yet to reveal her true identity to Rudeus because she is embarrassed and concerned that Rudeus might have actually done so. forgot about her. This moment adds a relevant human aspect to Sylphy’s character.
We then see Rudeus participating in research on the teleportation incident caused by the Calamity of Mana. He theorizes that Teleportation Magic is quite similar to Summoning Magic.
But he is having difficulty in his research and needs an expert’s opinion. He approaches Fitz to ask if he knows anyone who can assist him with his research.
Silent Sevenstar
When Fitz suggests Rudeus consult with special student Silent Sevenstar, he has no idea what awaits him. Upon entering Silent’s study, he was confronted with a white, expressionless mask reminiscent of the mask that accompanies the fearsome Dragon God, Orsted.
This caused a severe panic in Rudeus, causing him to stumble and hastily withdraw, not only from the Silence but also from the overwhelming and terrifying memories that immediately flooded into him.
The animation in this sequence is superbly done. Rudeus’s movements and emotions feel extremely realistic. Everything from the tension in his jaw as he struggles to gasp to the way his hands tug at the hem of his shirt emphasizes his fear and anguish.
His panic increased to the point where he eventually lost consciousness, falling to the floor unconscious.
When Rudeus awoke, he found himself with Fitz, still researching on Silent. At this point, the character exchange takes place in another language, one that is unfamiliar to the viewer. We felt strange but Rudeus was also conversing in the same language without showing any surprise.
After he controlled his emotions, Silent asked him a few questions and this time, she spoke in Japanese. Rudeus also answered the questions in the same language, and this time, Sylphy was the one confused. At this point, Rudeus knows that Silent, like him, is also from our world.
This revelation opens up a wealth of new information, both for Rudeus and the audience. She also revealed that she was teleported to this world with her body and age intact, as opposed to the case where Rudeus was fully reincarnated as a new person while retaining only his original memories, causing them to have very different views of their situation.
In addition, she revealed her real name, Nanahoshi Shizuka. The most striking difference between her and Rudeus is their intense desire to return to their original worlds.
She deeply misses her previous life and friends, due to the fact that she retains her original body and age, she stands out as the only entity without mana in her current world. Surname.
In the Light Novel, Rudeus noticed that Silent Sevenstar was a direct translation of her real name, Nanahoshi Shizuka. He speculates that Nanahoshi may have intentionally chosen such a name, perhaps to make herself easily recognizable to the individuals she has been searching for since coming to this world.
Her status as a foreign entity in this world means that her body is immune to biological aging, making adaptation to this new world even more difficult.
This special status has increased her desire to get out of her current situation. Interestingly, it looks like Orsted is trying to assist her in this endeavor.
Because her arrival in this new world was more like teleportation than reincarnation, Nanahoshi tirelessly researched potential methods to teleport individuals back to the old world. her home world.
Unfortunately, her lack of mana hindered her ability to test any of these theories. However, with Rudeus’s help, she now has the opportunity to put her theories into practice.
The entire conversation between Rudeus and Silent took place in Japanese, a foreign language to Fitz. When they returned to the local dialect, Silent mentioned something that clearly angered Fitz.
This is due to Fitz’s lack of understanding of their previous conversation, causing him to mistakenly believe that Silent was responsible for the teleportation incident. Only when Rudeus intervened and made it clear that Silent was the victim and not the perpetrator did Fitz calm down.
When Fitz was lashing out at her, he tried to attack Silent using wind magic and physical attacks. It seems like Silent can operate a magic device that can dispel mana and create a shield to block those types of attacks, and it’s a reasonable choice for her since she can’t be on her own. manifest any mana.
