Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings In Russian Episode 1 Review
The first episode of this brand new rom-com anime is here and I was pleasantly surprised by it. The plot is pretty simple and the episode barely tries to be anything special. Right off the bat, we are introduced to our heroine, Alya, a high school student of Russian descent.
Her strange appearance and the charm she exudes make her one of the most popular girls in school. However, her personality is completely Tsundere. She struggles to express her true feelings, and despite her warm heart, she appears cold and haughty on the outside. On top of that, she is also a member of the student council, which makes her doubly intimidating. However, there is still one person standing in front of her that she is caught off guard by.
It's none other than Kuze, who acts like a cheerful and sometimes shy young girl in front of her. Kuze is an otaku who doesn't really have flashy qualities but he's still a likable person sitting next to Alya. The highlight of this entire anime is also introduced here. Alya occasionally uses Russian in front of Kuze to compliment him or express her genuine romantic interest in him in the hope that Kuze doesn't understand a word. Sadly for her, Kuze used to have a Russian friend growing up and he understood most of the things Alya said.
But being a very considerate person, he knew how embarrassing this whole situation would be for her. Alya if she found out this truth, so he would keep quiet and pretend not to understand anything.
The anime is simple and keeps you entertained with the antics of its characters. Fan service is there, but not to the point where we can't handle it. We are introduced to some side characters that may become important later on, but as of now, they don't play that much of a role.
Verdict
I liked this episode and believe it could become a good romantic comedy after it releases a few more episodes. The idea is fresh and the animation is surprisingly good. Overall, this is a good show that you can definitely start watching if you love the romance genre.
