Fire Force fans finally get an update to its highly anticipated third season, but it’s not what any of us expected.
According to a leak from Twitter account Shueishaleaks, the Fire Force anime will change studios from David Production to Studio Shaft. While this report has yet to be confirmed by the franchise at the time of writing, the account has a strong track record in the anime news arena, with its leaks generally credible. . However, the news of the Fire Force’s studio change still came as a shock as the show’s first two seasons received acclaim for the quality of its animation. David Production’s ability to adapt Atsushi Ohkubo’s unique art style to the screen has impressed viewers and critics alike. If this update is true, Studio Shaft will face an uphill battle to reach the same heights.
Ohkubo made a name for himself as a mangka with his second series Soul Eater, which also inspired an anime from studio Bones. Firefighters is his most recent series, running an impressive 304 chapters in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine. The manga ended in late 2022, followed by Ohkubo’s retirement, but the anime still has a lot of material to include. Its second season wrapped up in late 2020, and while Season 3 was announced shortly after, viewers have now waited almost three years for an update upon release. A change in the studio could explain the long break between seasons, but fans will still be hoping for more concrete news on when the long-awaited anime will return.
About Studio Axis
While David Production’s stellar work on the Fire Force will be missed if the studio leaves, the film will still be in the good hands of studio Shaft. Founded in the mid-70s, the studio is perhaps best known for its work on the anime Monogatari, which has received critical acclaim for its experimental style. In the 2000s, Shaft rebuilt its identity as an avant-garde animation producer around its main direction, Akiyuki Shinbo, who worked hard as an animator at Studio Pierrot, working on classic series like Yu Yu Hakusho. If Fire Force joins Shaft, the combination of the studio’s distinct approach and Atsushi Ohkubo’s unique style is sure to be worth checking out by any anime fan.
The first two seasons of Firefighters are available to stream on Crunchyroll. All Ohkubo manga chapters are available from Kodansha USA or on the new K-Manga app.
