The isekai anime Butareba: The Story of a Man Turned Into a Pig has released a new trailer.
As detailed on Anime News Network, the new promo was released during Aniplex Online Fest 2023, a livestream festival that gives anime fans a preview of future works from various studios. In addition to the trailer, Project No. 9, the anime’s production unit, also revealed the new cast, a promotional artwork, the theme song, and the anime’s release date of October 7. The series’ opening theme song, “The Reason I Laugh Is,” will be presented by the ASCA (Sword Art Online: Alicization, Edens Zero) team. The ending song “I’m not Alone” will be performed by Myuk (The Promised Neverland).
Butareba is an adaptation of Takuma Sakai and Asagi Tosaka’s popular light novel series Heat the Pig Liver, which debuted in March 2020. In a somewhat bizarre twist on the typical isekai formula, the series is set in scene in a universe where, if a person falls asleep while eating raw pig liver, he will be reincarnated as a pig in a fantasy world. This is what happens to the series’ unnamed protagonist, who is introduced as an otaku with no friends and no real purpose in life. While exploring his new world, he comes across Jess, a girl born with the ability to read minds that allows her to communicate with him.
Masayuki Takahashi is directing Butareba at Project No. 9. Takahashi has previous experience with the isekai genre, as he previously served as Assistant Director for Reborn as a Vending Machine, Now I Wander the Dungeon. Series writer Deko Akao wrote the script for the popular romantic comedy Komi Can’t Communication as well as Snow White With the Red Hair. Susumu Watanabe (Didn’t I say to keep my abilities average in my next life?) is adapting Tosaka’s original character design into animation.
The series’ cast features several notable voice actors. Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, who is known for his role as Inosuke Hashibira in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, will play Butareba’s main character, Pig. Tomori Kusunoki, who plays Shizuka Mikazuki in Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, will be Jess. Mamiko Noto, Elsa Granhiert’s character in Re:ZERO: Getting My Life in Another World, will play Brace. Miyu Tomita (Mobile Suit Gun: The Witch From Mercury) and Kent Ito (Mashle: Magic and Muscles) will play Ceres and Nott, respectively.
Butareba: The Story of a Man Who Turned into a Pig, is scheduled to open on October 7.
