Dandadan is only one episode old and the anime community has decided to call it an “overrated anime”.
A common criticism that some anime face is that the animation style “piggybacks” on the overall plot, making the plot boring. One of the anime that has received such criticism is Kimetsu no Yaiba, an anime that many people believe that its animation is what brought it popularity. However, facts have proven that the idea that Demon Slayer's animation gives anime success is subjective and not a fact.
Now, Dandadan is also receiving similar criticism. The only difference is that this anime has only released one episode.
Dandadan's studio, Science Saru, has animated other popular series such as Devilman Crybaby and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. The studio has proven its prowess with the creativity and amazing visuals that anime can achieve. Dandadan animated by Science Saru is a perfect fit for the original manga.
Is Dandadan overrated or are anime fans losing patience?
For those unfamiliar with Dandadan, the original manga was only released in 2021. Yukinobu Tatsu is the genius behind this humorous blend of horror, romance, and action. The story is about Momo Ayase, a confident high school girl, and Ken Takakura, an introverted boy with a passion for the occult.
Momo protects Ken from bullies and from there they gradually build a relationship. As the plot progresses, they confront spirits and monsters, while maintaining a comedic tone and developing a romance between the two.
So far, the first episode is the only background that new viewers know and it's not surprising that they think the show is overrated and start to hate this anime.
With just the first episode out, viewers won't know enough about the plot. Even though it's fast-paced, how can one episode represent the entire plot of the anime? There's more to Dandadan than flashy, vibrant animation. It has the perfect balance between horror and humor, which is not easy to perfect. The characters have their own charm and you never get bored watching them.
The fact that an episode makes the viewer feel that the animation carries the entire anime on its back is a testament to the excellence and creativity of the animation and the director's vision, but also shows that the fan community can lose How patient? If one episode is enough to hate an anime, you'll miss out on unique storylines like Dandadan's.
Indirect compliment to the animation
Whether or not the plot is to the viewer's taste is subjective, but with the criticism that it's overrated, there's no denying that the anime's animation is phenomenal. The stunning animation often leaves many viewers curious as to why a visually amazing anime is hated.
The story being overshadowed by its animation isn't necessarily the worst thing. A lot of anime, like Tower of God, deviate from the source material and have bad animation. So far, Dandadan has remained faithful to the original manga.
