If there’s one thing Pokémon One thing fans can say about the anime’s take on Team Rocket boss Giovanni is that he’s incredibly lenient with Jessie, James, and Meowth, who repeatedly fail to get results but are allowed to keep trying over and over. from time to time. However, the new villains of Pokémon Horizons were not granted this grace, as Amethio and his followers were reassigned after only three failed incidents.
The Explorers, as the newly known team of villains, are pursuing Riko’s pendant for reasons that are still not entirely clear; apparently it has something to do with the Pokémon that appears to be stored inside, but what exactly they want with it is a mystery. Amethio and his two assistants, Zir and Conia, tried to get the pendant directly from Riko while she was at her school, then after seeing her activate the pendant, tried to catch her. Toad her along with it. Finally, they launched a third attack while the spacecraft was docked for repairs, and the attack went pretty smoothly until Roy’s Ancient Poké Ball opened, releasing a form of Rayquaza that ended Shiny, crystalline, naturally frightens Adventurers. After this event, Amethio reported back to his boss, Gideon.
A quick fall for Pokémon’s newest villain
Amethio arrives in a strange, dark room full of machines, and calls out to a glowing purple machine as if it were Gideon. He’s joined by other shadow figures who appear to be other Explorers agents like Amethio. Amethio told the story, but was fired; Instead, one of the other shadow figures, named Spinel, is tasked with getting Riko’s pendant instead. Amethio leaves the meeting, quite angry about the change, but instead determined to find this strange black Rayquaza.
It’s interesting how quickly Amethio was dropped from the hunt; it suggests that the Explorers, as an organization, are far more competent and expect a higher level of success from their agents than Team Rocket ever did. However, Amethio has been a pretty important character so far, so it’s unlikely he’ll be left out of the story altogether. The question becomes what exactly is Amethio going to do and how will it relate to Riko and Roy? If he searches for Rayquaza, he might see them again anyway, as Roy is also hoping to see Rayquaza again. Amethio also seems to have some degree of decency, despite the objectively evil acts he has committed, but there is no guarantee that Spinel will treat Riko and the others. with the same respect. Fans of the classic Pokémon series may want to compare Amethio to Spinel in the same way that Jessie and James are often compared to fellow Rockets Butch and Cassidy, who are significantly more successful, though not yet. the accuracy of that comparison. . It’s worth noting that even Butch and Cassidy have been repeatedly embarrassed at the hands of Ash and friends, so things don’t necessarily bode well for Spinel in that respect.
It may take a while before Spinel can move, as the tracking device Amethio installed on the spaceship has been destroyed, so they will have to track the group again. EQUAL Pokémon Horizon‘ plot continues, this villain change could have a big impact on the shape of the future series; the only question is, how dangerous will these new villains be?
