Netflix is currently the top streaming destination for the globally popular Pokémon anime series. However, the company recently confirmed that it will soon be removing the original Netflix show, Pokémon: To Be a Pokémon Master: Ultimate Journeys.
Released as the final chapter of Pokémon: Ultimate Journeys, To Be a Pokémon Master covers the final major leg of Ash Ketchum's journey following his epic championship battle with Leon. According to What's On Netflix, the series is scheduled to be canceled on September 8, 2024, along with Stephen Chbosky's 2017 drama Wonder on the same day. As of August 12, Netflix has yet to clarify why it is saying goodbye to one of its original works, the majority of which remain permanent on the popular streaming site.

Pokémon Masters: Ultimate Journeys brings Misty, Brock, and more back to the series
Originally released on Netflix in October 2022, Pokémon: Ultimate Journeys continues the adventures of long-running protagonist Ash Ketchum and his partner, Pikachu. The bulk of the series focuses on Ash's progression through the ranks of the World Coronation Series, which he must complete in order to earn the privilege of battling Leon. He is accompanied by Goh, a fellow Pokémon trainer who dreams of capturing every Pokémon in the world, including the legendary Mew. Notably, To Be a Pokémon Master features several returning companions from previous seasons, including Brock, Misty, and Cilan. Ash also reunites with all of his Pokémon partners from previous seasons throughout the course of the series.
Ash's death at the end of To Be a Pokémon Master marks the beginning of a whole new era for the entire series. The Netflix original anime, Pokémon Horizons, follows rookie Pokémon trainers Liko and Roy as they journey across different regions of the Pokémon universe. Other new characters include Professor Friede, founder of the Rising Volt Tackers research team, and their fearless leader, Captain Pikachu. Netflix recently released the highly anticipated third season of the anime, which follows the introduction of the legendary Pokémon, Terapagos. Currently, 34 episodes of Pokémon Horizons are available on the streaming platform, with more likely to follow. As of August 9, 2024, 60 episodes of the popular anime have aired in Japan.
