Warning: Contains spoilers for Pokémon Horizons, episode 64Pokémon Horizon has just revealed a terrifying new way to boost Pokémon's power to the max, and it's shedding light on the villains' motives. Unsurprisingly, Spinel of the Explorers was the first to use this mysterious substance, making his Pokémon much stronger and faster than ever before.
In a fairly recent episode of Pokémon Horizons, it was revealed that Spinel had stolen a small sample of a substance called Laquium, which implicated Friede. The substance, which is tied to the mythical paradise of Laqua, represents a major step towards the Explorers' goal, though its effects or why they want it remain a mystery. It seems to have something to do with keeping the Explorers' boss, Gibeon, alive, but that's not all the mysterious substance can do.
In the latest episode, Spinel used the specimen he stole to create a pink mist, which he then exposed his Umbreon to, causing it to become a ferocious and powerful beast.
The new power of the adventurers represents a dangerous threat.
Laquium can make explorers unstoppable
Not only does Laquium make Umbreon much more aggressive, it also increases its speed to absurd levels, making Umbreon nearly untrackable while on the move.. It struck with great force, knocking back Amethio's Ceruledge with a single blow, despite being Terastalized by then. Liko and Floragato would have been next, but Terapagos reacted to the sight of the substance being used in this way with a furious rage, transforming into Terastal Form and destroying a small portion of the Laquium, rendering Umbreon's power-enhancing abilities ineffective.
Umbreon's power-up seems extremely unnatural, similar to some of Team Rocket's evil plans to enhance Pokémon's abilities. Umbreon does not appear to be conscious when affected by Laquium, though it still obeys its trainer's commands, unlike many other forms of berserk Pokémon.Fortunately, Umbreon was only affected by the substance for a short period of time, and it is unclear what effects long-term exposure might have on Pokémon. After the effects wore off, Spinel and his Umbreon retreated, leaving Amethio and Riko to pursue.
What is Terapagos' connection to Laquium?
The power of Terapagos “opposes” Laquium
In a previous episode, it was speculated that Laquium was somehow related to Terapagos, as Terapagos produced a similar pink mist when it showed Riko visions of the past. Ms. Raifort of the Naranja Academy said that Laqua was said to have a pink aura, further tying the substance to the mysterious land. It seems that Laquium somehow imparts vitality to those affected, even extending a person's lifespan, like Gibeon. Spinel speculates that due to its ability to cancel out Laquium's effects, Terapagos is its opposite.
The dangerous effects of Laquium can certainly explain why Pokémon Horizon'The villains want to get close to Laqua, because with this power, they can easily conquer the world.
