The latest Pokémon anime is “surpassing” Pokémon Go with everyone’s favorite electric mouse.
The Pokémon Horizons anime series is now out in the US, with the mobile game Pokémon Go announcing a new event as a special anniversary tie-in event. This brings several new Pocket Monsters available to the game, including a fan-favorite variant of the franchise’s Pikachu mascot. It will also boast one of the rodent’s most powerful and iconic attacks, making this new version of Pikachu more than just a cute new costume.

Horizons Captain Pikachu and Charcadet join Pokémon Go
Captain Pikachu is the latest “event” Pikachu variant to join Pokémon Go, with this version of Pikachu making its debut in the wild on March 5. Pokémon Horizons starts the anime once again
Serving as the 26th season of the long-running anime series, Pokémon Horizons: The Series is also a soft reboot of sorts. The new main characters are Riko and Roy, who replace Ash Ketchum as the main character after the conclusion of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series. The chapter borrows elements from the recent Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet video games set in the Paldea region. The series began airing in Japan on April 14, 2023, with 40 episodes released to date.
Even though the series’ cast has changed, Captain Pikachu’s presence brings a sense of familiarity to what came before. The English dub of the anime was released in the UK on December 4 via BBC iPlayer. It was scheduled to launch on the Netflix streaming service at the end of February 2024, but this has been postponed to a new release date of March 7, 2024.
