Summary
The new Pokémon Horizons series introduces an extremely dark and evil Pokémon villain named Spinel. Spinel uses an army of Magnetons to jam communications and shut down electronics, revealing a diabolical plan. Spinel’s use of Pokémon, including the ability to erase memories, shows the dangerous potential these creatures possess and the formidable opponents the heroes face.
new series Pokémon Horizon raised the bar on what it means to be a Pokémon villain with the Adventurers, but their latest evil agent is taking things to a whole other level by using Pokémon in insidious new ways.
The series begins with Amethio persistently pursuing Riko and her pendant, but Amethio is eventually cleared of the case by his superiors, handing it over to a new character named Spinel. Spinel hasn’t appeared since his first appearance until the final episode, where he begins by attacking the Rising Volt Taklers’ airship with an army of Magnetons. This insidious tactic resulted in jammed communications and turned off the spacecraft’s electronics, seemingly leaving them open to attack. However, Spinel didn’t just launch a direct attack on them; instead, he has a much darker plan.
Spinel’s use of Pokémon is Anime’s Darkest Ever
Spinel’s Magneton trick itself was quite insidious. He is using more than six Pokémon, and the damage their electromagnetic pulses do to the ship can cause it to land for a while. Spinel then used these Magnetons to lure Friede off the spaceship and tried to knock him down without showing himself. However, even this is only a small part of the plan; he also placed a fake advertisement for a Herba Mystica store in Levincia to lure Riko off the ship. Once he gets her alone, he can use his Beheeyem to hypnotize her, allowing him to steal her pendant and erase all memories of the encounter.
While this isn’t the first time a Pokémon has the ability to hypnotize humans on screen, no villain has ever attempted to use it to erase memories, a skill that has historically only been possible for legendary Pokémon like Mewtwo. If the next episode preview is any indication, it may have worked a little too well, erasing more of her memories than intended. Spinel has demonstrated just how dangerous Pokémon can be in the previous two episodes, and how much damage a dedicated rogue can really manage with their powers at their disposal. The Adventurers have proven themselves to be formidable opponents, in a way that many evil teams in the game never did.
With the pendant now owned by Spinel and the heroes having no way of knowing who has it, things don’t look too good for Riko right now. That’s a rare level of success for Pokémon villains, and Spinel accomplished it with relative ease. Although these dark tactics may have won for the moment, Pokémon Horizon‘ The brave crew certainly won’t rest until the pendant is restored – especially now that they’ve seen for themselves what it can do.
