The beloved Pokémon Diglett and its evolution is Dugtrio, which has a much darker identity in the Russian Pokédex.
A report from ComicBook.com recently broke down the Russians’ take on the iconic Pocket Monsters, as seen in the country’s unofficial Pokédex. This stat claims that Diglett and Dugtrio have explosive power, like landmines that explode on contact but regrow later thanks to their deep-rooted roots. According to the Pokédex, this makes them the perfect weapon of war, and their explosive power has even caught the eye of the military.
What You Never Knew About Diglett and Dugtrio
The description added that this unexpected power led to a large wave of mining beyond the control of the military. According to the Pokédex, Dugtrio – the stronger of the pair – is often tricked by bandits and thieves into engaging in affairs, who promise to pay for the use of their explosive abilities. However, in most cases, the criminals escape before the Pokémon evolves again, leaving them with no compensation. The Pokédex also states that owners of tamed Digletts/Dugtrios will keep them potted on the windowsill and feed them Sprite or Fanta.
The fan-made Russian Pokédex is an unofficial version of a licensed Pokémon guide, made in response to the country’s lack of an official guide. It was created by the father of a Pokémon fan, who gathered information from a collection of official sources in different languages. This led to a variety of unorthodox interpretations, including the concept of Diglett potentially exploding. The entire Pokédex was introduced to the world in a 2-hour video from the YouTube channel Did You Know Gaming.
The unofficial Pokédex has alternate descriptions of every Pokémon from the original lineup of 151. For example, the beloved Pikachu is described as being so popular that presidents and kings from all over the world come to see them. Poliwhirl is written as capable of shooting submachine guns and often participates in large armies to overthrow the governments of small countries “like Haiti”. Described as “the wisest Pokémon”, they choose to hide their intelligence, write books in the attic and bury them in the sand, hoping one day people will discover them.
The latest installment in the long-running Pocket Monster series, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, was released in November 2022.
