This will be one of the first product review posts I write on this blog and I’m super excited about it. Today, I’ll be reviewing the popular anime merchandise subscription, The Otaku Box.
What is Otaku Box?
For those who don’t know, The Otaku Box is a company that sends monthly anime-themed subscription boxes to people around the world. world. Based on your subscription, you will receive a new box every month.
These boxes contain random anime merchandise, including guaranteed figurines. Each month you receive merchandise for different anime and waifus, decided based on fan votes.
But that’s not even the best part. Did you know there’s an ecchi option where you can get strippable figurines, lewd scrolls, etc!? That’s right, the ultimate fantasy right there, all delivered to you in one box.
So I just received my February 2024 Otaku Box and let’s check out what kind of product I got!
What’s in the box?
Attila the Sun T-Shirt (Fate series) Inuyasha Mini Figurine One Piece Silicon Egg Shapers Attack on Titan Wallet Chisato Hasagawa (Highschool DxD) Asuna (SAO) Senjougahara Acrylic Figure (Monogatari series) Irina Demon Slayer Magnet (Assassination Classroom ) Waifu Card
Attila Sun T-shirt
Out of all the items in this February Otaku box, I think this is probably the most useful. And I actually have two of these shirts! So lucky for me!
From the color theme to the design, everything is brilliant. Oh, and this character is Attila the Sun in the Fate seriesif you don’t know.
It’s also SFW, so I can wear this around without people judging me. A complete victory.
Inuyasha figurine
This is actually quite cute. I haven’t seen the Inuyasha series so I’m not sure who it is, but it’s adorable nonetheless.
Who wouldn’t want a cute chibi girl in their showcase?
One Piece Silicone Egg Shaper
This really surprised me. I thought The Otaku Box was all about figurines and ecchi objects, but I never imagined they sent egg presses.
And I’m a huge fan of One Piece, so it’s definitely something I appreciate.
Attack on Titan wallet
Next, we have the Attack on Titan Wallet, which includes the one and only Eren Jeager. However, it’s nothing too fancy. Just a regular wallet with a picture of Eren.
I would have preferred something more colorful, but other than that, it looks great.
Chisato Hasagawa scale figure
As a figurine collector, I was extremely excited to open this one! This 1:9 scale figure made me extremely excited because it was the first time I held an ecchi in my hands, like a true otaku. Not to mention, I’ve never had one in the High School DxD series, so it would be a good addition to my collection.
But I won’t lie, I just put the statue back in the box. quickly and shoved it into the deepest corner of my closet. After all, I don’t want people to think I’m a degenerate. Do you understand what I mean? Look at those giant melons!
All told, I can’t help but feel that they focused more on her body and messed with her face.
Asuna Acrylic Figure
As I mentioned before, I am a figurine collector. And like most of them, I have a negative opinion of acrylic statues.
I mean, who would want these over actual figurines? Even the PVC stuff is better than these! At least that’s what I think.
But now that I’ve actually seen it in person, I think it’s quite cute. It certainly has its charm, but still cannot compare to the real thing.
Anyway, here is Asuna from Sword Art Online, one of the best wiafus out there, in my humble opinion.
Scroll of Senjougahara
Anyone who has watched Bakemonogatari will know that Senjougahara is the ultimate waifu material from the series. By the way, if you like anime and are looking for more similar shows, check out this article!
I’m pretty convinced this is an AI-generated work of art, but it could actually be the work of some artist. I do not know. But this artwork was voted on by fans last month, which is why it’s printed on a scroll.
Irina Waifu Card
Irina Jelavic, commonly known as “Bitch sensei,” is easily one of the fan-favorite characters in the Assassination Classroom series. Of course, I like her too, mainly thanks to all the funny moments involving her.
This waifu card features her in a bikini, which is actually legendarily accurate as she also wears them in the anime.
Demon-killing magnet
Finally, we’ve got something from the trending shounen anime, Demon Slayer.
The February Otaku box has two magnets, featuring my favorite characters, Nezuko and Inosuke.
These are so cute and compact. Totally worth it.
What do I like about Otaku Box?
Firstly, the concept of Otaku Box is very interesting. I think they have nailed the designs on the product. The product quality is also quite good (except for the figurine’s face). Adorable magnets and a waifu card are the icing on the cake.
What I don’t like about the Otaku box?
The box was somewhat smashed. Even the box containing the statue inside the package was a little torn. While it wasn’t necessarily the Otaku box’s fault (it was mine, lol), the customs clearance process was difficult because the names on the shipment didn’t match. I also had to pay an additional customs fee of about $21 because I was technically importing goods from another country. The statue’s body looks beautiful, but the face could have been much more beautiful. Well, it’s not Bandai or Funko so I guess this is what we can expect.
Final thoughts on the Otaku box
I have to say, this is the first box I received from them and I definitely love it.
Some of these items are embarrassing “fan service” themed merchandise. I know these people even sell extreme stuff with nudity, but even the regular Ecchi stuff isn’t for me.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy ecchi stuff as much as any other weeb stuff, but only online. Wearing them in person can be really embarrassing.
Also, this isn’t really a complaint, but I think having anime-specific boxes would be nice. For example, a One Piece themed box instead of a box filled with random anime merchandise. But I guess the whole point of Otaku Box is its randomness and element of surprise.
But at the end of the day, I think these boxes are pretty cool.
That’s all for this article, guys! This is my honest review of The Otaku Box. Overall, is it worth it? I think it is. But it depends on personal preference. Some people will want to choose the items they buy carefully, in which case it may be difficult to find a box that contains only what you need.
On the other hand, if you are someone who has a hard time deciding what to buy, Otaku Box is exactly what you need.
