Oshi no Ko’s famous comedy character, Pieyon, is getting his own live-action show on YouTube.
The official X (formerly Twitter) account for the Oshi no Ko anime series recently announced that Pieyon will appear in a dedicated segment on the Oshi no Ko YouTube Channel. Starting in 2024, new episodes of the show will be released monthly. It seems like fans will at least play a part in determining the show’s content, as the post calls on viewers to submit requests for what they want Pieyon to do. Even more casual Oshi no Ko fans may recognize Pieyon, as the fitness-obsessed icon has appeared in both the Oshi no Ko manga series and the anime adaptation of Doga Kobo. In the Oshi no Ko universe, Pieyon is a famous YouTuber turned TV star affiliated with the same production company in charge of Ai’s idol group, B-Komachi. Ichigo Production regularly invites him to coach emerging talents in physical training and personal branding. The character is featured periodically on Oshi no Ko’s YouTube Channel, either to build hype for future events or perform the famous “warm-up dance”.
The original Oshi no Ko manga series was written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. The film is a supernatural drama revolving around a music-loving gynecologist named Gorou Amemiya. One day, his favorite idol, Ai Hoshino, comes to his office to deliver a child. In a strange turn of events, Gorou is eventually reincarnated into the body of Ai’s son, Aquamarine, starting a new life alongside her. However, he also learned about the problems that idols are forced to endure in the Japanese idol industry. After Doga Kobo’s adaptation brought more attention to the manga, it quickly skyrocketed to the top of the manga sales rankings in 2023. Kadokawa’s global e-book seller, BookWalker, reported reported that Oshi no Ko was the site’s second most popular title of the year.
