What happened in Oshi no Ko Season 2 Episode #8?
Episode #8 sees Kana give an excellent performance as Tsurugi
Episode 8 of Season 2 of Oshi no Ko begins with Himekawa asking Kana why she did not accept Akane's challenge, Kana explains that someone needs to take on the role of coordinator to ensure the play is completed, especially when there are actors like Himekawa and Akane attracting attention with their acting.
Himekawa later revealed that he does not wear contact lenses while on stage and acts based on his co-stars' movements rather than their expressions, which are mostly invisible to the audience. He also revealed that he planned to add an improvisation to an upcoming scene, asking Kana if she could keep up with him.
Back in the play, Himekawa and Aqua cross paths on stage as Blade and Touki. In response to Himekawa's emotional performance, Aqua has a cold, emotionless approach, seeking to create a contrast between him and Himekawa. instead of trying to compete with him on an equal stage. Himekawa then performs her improvisation, but Aqua covers for him instead of Kana, surprising Kana with her ability to improvise on the spot while staying true to her character. This indirectly signals to Kana that Aqua wants her to be the center of the stage and act freely without worrying about stage harmony.
A flashback later reveals that Kana's mother dreamed of becoming a celebrity and tried to fulfill that dream through Kana. However, she became sensitive to Kana's popularity and often began taking her frustrations out on Kana, leading to her current anxiety about her career and tendency to want to work well with others instead of overpowering them.
However, Aqua is eventually able to cheer Kana up, who finally unleashes her true potential as an actress to give a lively performance that leaves her co-stars and the audience in awe. Kaburagi even notes that while Kana is known for her ability to cry, it is her amazing performances like this that truly make her popular, while Akane admires Kana's performance.
The focus then shifts to Aqua as Sayahime steps in and blocks Blade's attack. Sayahime's death marks the climax of the play as Touki is thrust into the spotlight with her death. A short Flashback shows Aqua discussing her panic disorder with AkaneThe man told him to go find the cause.
However, Gotanda seems to have deduced that the guilt over Ai's death is what prevents Aqua from enjoying acting and causes his panic attacks. Therefore, Aqua has no choice but to stop enjoying acting and instead, fuel his performances with a thirst for revenge.
Oshi no Ko Season 2 Episode #9 will shift the focus to Aqua
While episode #8 was primarily about Kana, the latter half shifted to Aqua and his complicated relationship with acting. As such, episode #9 of Oshi no Ko will likely explore his deepest and darkest emotions, which will be conveyed in his performance on stage as Touki clashes with Blade.
It's clear that Aqua is very much a Touki character at the moment, with Sayahime's death clearly mirroring Ai's. This will likely see Aqua channel her true emotions into her acting in the play's finale. So, fans can look forward to the upcoming episode of The Owl to bring intense emotions, bringing an epic conclusion to Tokyo Blade and the 2.5D Drama Arc.
Don't miss out The Owl Episode 9 of season 2 will air on HIDIVE on August 28, 2024.
