Warning: Oshi no Ko and Kaguya-sama: Love is WarFollowing episode 3 revealed Oshi no Ko episode 3, the anime is officially in a shared universe with the hit anime romcom Kaguya-sama: Love is war. While the idea of a shared universe is largely associated with Western stories, two of the biggest examples are Marvel and DC Comics stories, anime and manga that have also used the concept. . For example, many works by Akira Toriyama, most notably Dragon Ball and Dr. Slump, exists in the same universe, and while each anime has a less obvious continuity than the previous one, the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime is also said to exist in the same universe.
Shared universes are definitely a thing in anime and manga, and as of the third episode, the anime that dethroned Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood in popularity, Oshi no Ko, officially exists in a universe with Kaguya -sama. Naturally, both stories were written by Aka Akasaka, and while volume 3 had only a small reference, subsequent developments in Oshi no Ko broadened the connections in a big way. The said expansion probably won’t be mentioned in the anime, but even so, it adds a lot to both stories so they’re connected, no matter how related.
Oshi no Ko Takes Sharing the Universe with Kaguya-sama
The big reveal in episode 3 of Oshi no Ko is that Oshi no Ko takes place in the same universe as Aka Akasaka’s previous work, Kaguya-Sama: Love is War. Volume 3 revolves around Aqua and Kana acting in the live-action adaptation of the manga called Sweet Today, which is mentioned several times in Kaguya-sama. It’s just a small reference, but that means the two stories take place in the same universe.
As for what that means for either story, it probably won’t be much. The theme and setting of Oshi no Ko is very different from that of Kaguya-sama: Love is War, and the fact that Oshi no Ko has supernatural elements makes it even more different from an almost realistic story like Kaguya-sama. Even so, the fact that there’s a common universe, in the first place, still helps make up the worlds of each story, and that makes it all the more worthwhile to invest in both stories.
Oshi no Ko & Kaguya-sama’s connection is deeper than in the Manga
Although the Oshi no Ko anime’s connection to Kaguya-sama: Love is War isn’t huge, the manga is a completely different story. A sub-chapter of Oshi no Ko details the photo shoot that Ruby participated in, and on the last page it is revealed that her photographer is Kaguya Shirogane. Not only does it fully confirm that the stories exist in a shared universe, with Oshi no Ko taking place many years after Kaguya-sama, but it also reveals that Kaguya has achieved her dream of becoming a photographer and marry Miyuki, allowing it to serve as something. of the epilogue for Kaguya-Sama after its epilogue.
Although Kaguya’s cameo has nothing to do with Oshi no Ko’s story, its implications are still great to watch. After all the struggles and uncertain moments Kaguya went through in Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, it’s impressive to see that she’s finally succeeded in achieving her happy ending. me and Oshi no Ko allowed it to be conveyed in such an organic way that made the moment even better. All of this is thanks to two stories that exist in a common universe, and as Oshi no Ko continue, don’t know how else it can yield results for Kaguya-Sama: Love is war.
