One Piece Manga Chapter #1111, Author Eiichio Oda, Published by Viz Media
An ability that gives the character eternal life is possible in One Piece with the help of the Op-Op No Mi (also known as the Operation Devil Fruit). The current holder, Trafalgar Law, is not the first in the franchise to acquire this fruit. This is the first part of the explanatory puzzle How could the Five Elders achieve immortality?.
The ultimate devil fruit was used at great cost
One Piece is written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda
Law's arcane Devil Fruit grants him many abilities that allow him to perform extraordinary feats such as toppling giant naval warships and dramatically altering the bodies of his enemies. However, he was forced to eat the fruit as a child in a desperate attempt to stop the vile Donquixote Doflamingo from getting his hands on it. Doflamingo's desire for this devil fruit's power does not stem from the abilities that Law has shown in the series so far. Instead, he wanted to take advantage of it. the ultimate ability is to sacrifice its user to grant someone else immortality.
Doflamingo's kind brother, Rosinante, was murdered by the vile One Piece villain in an attempt to save Law. A kind soul's plan to steal the Op-Op Devil Fruit to cure young Law of his fatal lead poisoning hits many obstacles along the way. After many unforeseen failures, Law had to eat a Devil Fruit and witnessed his best friend, Donquixote Rosinante, being killed in front of him. Since then, Law has gained his freedom and taken revenge on Doflamingo. However, his Devil Fruit abilities are expected to play a role in the One Piece story before it ends, if not already.
Being awarded the Op-Op fruit entrusted a tragic fate to Law. While author Eiichiro Oda may have given the fan-favorite character a happy ending, a popular narrative principle known as Chekhov's gun says otherwise. This principle implies that when constructing a story, each element must be introduced for a reason. So when an important story element like immortality is introduced into the story, it the necessity of an overarching plot must ultimately be demonstrated, otherwise it would be an overlong and unsatisfying plot device. However, Egghead Island may have finally witnessed the immortality of the Op-Op Fruit.
Thien Long Dragon toy with devil fruit user for fun
Only one Devil Fruit of a specific type can exist at the same time in the One Piece world. Dr.Vegapunk made a unique exception by cloning Kaido's Fish-Fish Fruit, the Azure Dragon Model Devil Fruit. However, normally, the Fruit user's abilities can only belong to one individual until their death. The deceased person's Devil Fruit will then return to the world, by a currently unexplained process, so that others can consume the Devil Fruit and gain its abilities. The Op-Op fruit and its ultimate sacrificial invulnerability have likely been used before at least five times.
For hundreds of years, the top ruling class of the One Piece world, the Celestial Dragons, have controlled countless slaves and forced them to eat Devil Fruits for their own enjoyment. The overbearing and cruel villains in One Piece are subjected to the worst crimes imaginable. Can't imagine that The Heavenly Dragon forced the slave to sacrifice his life to become immortalespecially those operating in the highest authority of the World Government: the Five Lao Tzu.
The highest authority has ruled for a very long time
Saint Saturn has proven his status as one of the ultimate villains of One Piece. Abilities such as decomposing anything he touches with powerful acid and launching projectiles with explosive force reminiscent of Oppenheimer's first nuclear bomb test make Saturn arguably more fearsome than Kaido. However, his destructive abilities are only part of the threat factor that the Elders represent, as they have shown the ability to withstand Luffy's strongest Gear 5 attacks and can quickly regenerates all the damage they have received so far. It was such a ridiculous feat that it even made Luffy retreat while saying, “Hurry! This doesn’t matter…they are immortal!!!”
After the events of chapter #1111, it seems more and more likely that Each of the Five Elders has an immortality procedure is performed on them. Their ability to endure attacks and regenerate lost limbs is unlike anything the series has ever seen. Another popular theory is that the Elders are not users of the Fruit but are actually Demons or Demons. As shown in this chapter, their inhuman offensive and defensive exploits explain why such a force has remained in power for so long, longer than the lifespan of a normal human being.
As revealed in One Piece chapter #761, Op-Op users must have extensive knowledge of medical science to use it effectively and efficiently. sacrifice yourself to use Immortal Campaign. Past users remain a mystery, but Law's previous user is known as a legend in the medical field for curing several deadly diseases. After their deaths, the Op-Op Devil Fruit fell into the hands of a former marine and X. Drake's father, Diez Barrels, who lost his life to the Donquixote family. This may be the first time Qua has escaped Thien Long's clutches.
If the Elders can protect the Fruit and know where to find it once it is used to grant immortality to one of them, they can continuously use the Op-Op Fruit until it is removed from their control. This process will take years of training each successor and the lives of those successors to complete. This seems to fit the evil Heavenly Dragons of One Piece and their World Government. However, why stop at just making the Five Elders immortal?
Immortality may be more common than believed
For a good part of the epic One Piece story, audiences believed that the Five Heavenly Dragons were headed by those who controlled the world and enforced the dark secrets of its past. That all changes in chapter #908 when the mysterious character, Imu, appears and sits on the throne located at the center of the world in the Thien Long's headquarters. The five elders all knelt down and were extremely happy to carry out the orders of the mysterious and terrifying ruler of the One Piece world, a man who was most likely also immortal.
With their ruthless abuse of innocent lives and overwhelming control of the world's resources, the Celestial Dragons have been able to do almost anything for decades. By using Op-Op Fruit and sacrificing the user for a long, long time the most respected members of the World Government can be granted immortality. If so, overthrowing the world order and freeing many people from the oppression that the Imu and the Five Elders have endured for so long will be a challenge. It's setting up a beautiful final story for A piecethe story of.
