Summary
The manga’s controversial line about the Kurozumi family did not actually curse all members, as the anime makes clear. Hiyori’s powerful moment in the anime involves a quote from her father and is specifically aimed at Orochi. The anime’s interpretation makes the scene more transparent and poetic, glorifying Oden and ensuring Tama’s love and acceptance.
Warning: Spoilers for One Piece Anime #1085
Wano’s ending stand out a lot A pieceThe film’s most satisfying moments, but one controversial scene that seemingly sparked hatred towards an entire clan was made clear in the anime. Kaido and Kurozumi Orochi’s cruel leadership of the people of Wano spanned decades and focused on turning the once beautiful island into a toxic land of weapons manufacturing. After both villains die, the story of their fall is told in a play that the anime presents more cohesively than the manga.
The end of the Wano arc had one of the most controversial moments in One Piece that seemed to condemn an innocent girl to a life of hatred. A play in chapter #1057 of the manga is performed for the people of Wano to tell the story of their country’s liberation. It ends with Oden’s daughter declaring that “Kurozumi was born to burn” above the last remnants of Kurozumi Orochi’s flames. Some readers have interpreted this line as a curse for anyone named Kurozumi, and the anime has helped establish that this is not the case.
Toei’s dramatic music, excellent voice acting, and stylish animation gave Hiyori’s pivotal moment more time and clarity in the anime. Before Orochi’s head explodes into fiery embers, Hiyori delivers the line in episode #1085, “Black coal wouldn’t be called kurozumi if it weren’t burned!” The dialogue is delivered while Oden’s flashes of light are shown, thematically resonating as her lines directly relate to the morbidly ironic line her father used to recite: “Oden won’t It must be oden if it is not boiled.”
Kurozumi translates as “Black Charcoal” in Japanese.
Hiyori’s words were for Orochi, not all of Kurozumi
The manga’s original line is problematic because the truth is that not all of the Kurozumi family members deserved to be burned to the ground like Orochi. Before Luffy and the rest of the pirates leave Wano, there is a short scene of little Tama praying at her parents’ graves. The names on the tomb reveal that the girl with the power to turn many of Kaido’s personality forces into allies is actually a Kurozumi. Let’s say the line from Viz’s official manga English translation is taken at face value. In that case, Hiyori’s big moment also shows that Tama is someone who deserves to be burned.

One Piece’s Egghead arc has an official release date and an exciting new trailer
Following the conclusion of the Wano arc in the One Piece anime, a new trailer has been released to announce the official start of the Egghead Island arc.
One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda happily explained the controversial moment in the Q&A section of volume 105 of the manga. He makes it clear that Hiyori’s phrase is more directed towards Orochi than anyone with the same name. The anime also makes the moment clearer by changing the dialogue to more closely resemble the expressions her father used to speak, a poetic choice of words for vile Orochi’s final moments. Especially after Orochi tried to kill Hiyori’s father, Kozuki Oden, by boiling him alive in front of the people he worked so hard to save.
Tama is still loved even though she is Kurozumi
It’s likely that Hiyori’s last words to a severed, burned, and alive Orochi head never happened. Although Hiyori’s final blow against the man who killed her father and enslaved her people would have resonated greatly, it was ultimately Denjiro who killed Orochi. The dramatic final scene between Orochi and Hiyori may have been exaggerated in the play to add a more powerful ending to the death of Wano’s oppressor. Anyway, A pieceanime’s turned one of the series’ more controversial quotes into a poetic play of words that beautifully honors Oden and leaves the lovely Tama in the good graces of those she fell in love with. help save.
