Eiichiro Oda’s beloved One Piece manga continues to dominate the market.
Episode 103 of the ongoing series took fourth place on the most recent New York Times bestseller list for graphic books. This volume includes more chapters about Monkey D. Luffy’s epic fight with Kaido of the Beasts.
First appearing in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine in 1997, the One Piece manga has over 1,000 individual chapters. The plot follows Luffy, a young pirate captain with a body made of rubber, as he pursues his dream of becoming the next Pirate King. With his colorful crew, he sails across the Grand Line in search of the hidden treasure of the same name. One Piece is considered the best-selling manga series of all time, with over 516 million copies in circulation worldwide, an impressive number that continues to grow with the release of each new volume.
Oda’s masterpiece isn’t the only manga to make the NYT’s latest bestseller list. Notably, the seventh volume of Naoya Matsumoto’s Kaiju 8th issue, which first appeared in the online magazine Shōnen Jump+ in 2020, took eleventh place. The story centers on a man named Kafka Hibino, who has the ability to transform into one of the famous giant monsters. Despite being a relatively new series, Kaiju No. 8 generated impressive sales numbers, a fact evidenced by its high ranking on the bestseller lists; Worldwide, the series has sold 11 million copies.
Furthermore, the first volume of Koyoharu Gotouge’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and Tatsuki Fujimoto’s one-shot manga Goodbye, Eri ranked 12th and 13th respectively on the new list. The former tells the story of the good-natured Tanjiro Kamado, whose life changes dramatically after his family is attacked by demons, while the latter follows a young filmmaker named Yuta Ito as he faces death of his mother.
Spy x Family Vol. 1 Rounding out the bestseller list
Tatsuya Endo’s Spy x Family Vol. 1 round out this bestseller list. The series, which skillfully balances humor and healthy interactions with intense intrigue and combat, has been serialized on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ website since March 2019. Story Description Adventures of the Forgers, a family of eclectic individuals, including a young pink-haired girl. mind-reading girl (Anya), a Great Pyrenees with precognition (Bond), a master spy (Loid/Twilight) and a deadly assassin (Yor/Princess Thorn). The manga spin-off, Spy x Family Code: White, opens in Japan on December 22.
