4Kids dub A piece is famous for its many changes to the series, but one change in particular will cause major problems for the show going forward if it continues: the removal of Laboon. This is hardly surprising given how many characters and plot points are interconnected in One Piece. It’s interesting to wonder how 4Kids will “solve” this problem if they continue to dub the film.
When 4Kids adapted One Piece for Western audiences, they directed the show to children, based on its goofy art style. However, as any fan of the film knows, One Piece is filled with violence, gore, and mature themes, all of which 4Kids don’t want their audiences to see. As a result, the show censored various scenes and even cut entire arcs and characters from the show. This made the dub unpopular and so 4Kids ended their adaptation shortly after Alabasta, with an extremely dark ending that killed the Straw Hats. This is probably for the best as it would be very difficult for them to incorporate Brook into the show with a character they wrote out of the series.
4Kids censoring Laboon from One Piece will cause big problems
Brook is a musician for the Straw Hats, who was introduced in Thriller Bark, a part that 4Kids’ voice acting failed to achieve. He is an immortal skeleton who watched his original crew tragically die around him in one of One Piece’s most emotional flashbacks. He also has a deep connection to Laboon, a whale that the Straw Hats encountered at the entrance to the Grand Line. Brook’s group has promised to see Laboon again after they finish their journey through the Grand Line. As the only surviving member of the crew, Brook’s main dream is to see Laboon again and at least partially fulfill that promise. However, this was not possible in the 4Kids dub as they removed Laboon entirely, instead turning him into an iceberg that the Straw Hats could easily get through.
Besides being just a poor decision to cut out the great little arc that introduced Laboon, this change would also make it impossible to properly introduce Brook into the story. While Brook may not get as much screen time as many of the other Straw Hat members, he’s still an essential character, and without his tragic backstory, he would have been. It might just turn into a bad joke. Thus, out of all the changes 4Kids has made to One Piece, this is the most serious and will require even more changes and modifications to allow the series to continue to surpass Thriller Bark.
Of course, all of this is assuming that 4Kids dubbing will reach this point. While 4Kids can adapt Skypiea without much of a problem, both Water 7 and Enies Lobby contain a large amount of violence and some extremely dark moments, which can cause problems for the division. their censorship. But finally laboratorythe latter effect of A piece The story shows that even seemingly small changes to a show can cause huge problems later on, causing projects like the 4Kids dub to ultimately fail.
