Eiichiro Oda, the author and illustrator of the One Piece manga, believes the series would succeed without him if health problems forced him to resign.
According to Twitter user sandman (sandman_AP), Oda mentioned the possibility that the One Piece series would continue without him in a 2017 interview. “A lot of employees are involved in the One Piece industry,” Oda said. speak. “But I don’t feel pressured at all because I don’t have any other responsibilities outside of the manga. It won’t have a big impact even if the OP suddenly ends due to my health.”
Oda’s comments that his health may deteriorate in the future are not unfounded. In late May, it became known that Oda had been sleep deprived, leaving him with only three hours of sleep. According to the Daily Dose of Anime, Oda’s bedtime routine is to sleep at 9 a.m. and wake up at noon. However, his assistants’ sleep schedule is from 5 a.m. to noon.
Health Issues in the Manga Industry
Health problems for those working in the anime and manga business are not uncommon, nor are they unique to the Japanese industry. However, the problem is becoming more common as many anime and manga authors share their struggles with fans. Yoshihiro Togashi, the author of Hunter x Hunter, had to take hiatuses from his series over the years due to his chronic back pain. Togashi’s poor health has affected his ability to draw and his way of life.
Kohei Horikoshi, the author of My Hero Academia, also had to pause her series due to ill health. After a two-week break, the manga resumed publication on March 26. Many in the My Hero Academia community criticized Weekly Shonen Jump – the publisher of all three manga series – for overworking Horikoshi. and don’t give him more time to rest.
Similarly, One Piece fans are also expressing concern for Oda’s health, wanting him to take care of himself first. Although Oda’s main priority is the One Piece manga, he is also involved in the upcoming anime, video game, and live-action TV series for Netflix.
