With the Egghead arc nearing its end, One Piece is tying up some loose ends left by the Straw Hats.
In One Piece chapter 1124, we learn about Kizaru's heartbreaking dilemma in this arc and a mysterious figure waiting for our heroes on the shores of Elbaf.
However, One Piece chapter 1125 has something more shocking.
Titled “How to Define Death”, this chapter will tell of Saturn's final moments as he was left behind by the Gorosei. Saturn forbids the vice admirals from pursuing the Straw Hats as they have achieved most of their objectives, except for Vegapunk's message being spread.
But Saturn's decision and his performance in the Egghead arc sealed his fate. Imu and the other Five Elders found a new member for the team when Saint Figarland Garling entered the Authority Room to take on the role of Warrior God of Science and Defense, replacing Saturn.
Then, black flames began to emanate from Saturn's body, causing him to age rapidly. Saturn's body eventually exploded, leaving only his skeleton behind. He begged Imu for mercy but received nothing but a painful death. Now that there was a new fifth member, Imu and the World Government no longer needed Saturn.
It's a shocking and bleak development, especially since One Piece rarely ends its characters, let alone takes their lives in such a gruesome way. But the death of a Gorosei suggests things will be much darker than what we're used to in the manga.
Fans were also surprised by Saturn's death in One Piece chapter 1125, but everyone agreed that he deserved it. One fan pointed out: “It's crazy that one of the Five Elders is dead, while no admiral has been defeated. This tells us a lot.”
