In SBS cho A piece Episode 98, Eiichiro Oda, the author of One Piece, revealed the power of the Devil Fruit nami, Zoro, sanji, and many other Straw Hat crew members will have if they get one. SBS is a part of each episode of One Piece in between individual chapters where Oda takes the time to respond to fan mail. While many of his answers to fan questions may be joking or silly, he often reveals some very interesting details about the world and characters in One Piece. Oda’s answer to the Devil Fruit question that some unpowered Straw Hats will receive definitely belongs to the latter.
In episode 98 of One Piece, Oda answered a fan question about which Devil Fruit would be the best match for Nami, Zoro, Sanji, Usopp, and Franky. Nami’s Fruit is the Rumble Rumble Fruit, which allows the user to use the power of lightning. This goes well with her combat tool called Clima-tact, which creates controlled lightning bolts during battle. In contrast, Zoro and Sanji’s Fruits are not directly related to their characters. Zoro will receive Kaido’s powerful Mythical Zoan Fish Fruit, which allows its user to transform into a dragon, and Sanji will receive the Swim Swim Fruit, which allows the user to swim through solid surfaces such as the ground.
Nami will get the thunder while Zoro will get Kaido’s fruit
In contrast to Zoro and Sanji, the left of the other two crew members matches their personalities much better. Usopp will receive Pocket Pocket Fruit, which will give his body endless pockets, perfect for a sniper like him who needs a place to store his ammo. Franky will receive the Arms Arms Fruit that allows him to turn any part of his body into a weapon, befitting a cyborg that can already turn parts of his body into weapons. While most of these Devil Fruits make perfect sense, the question is why Zoro and Sanji have such different Devil Fruits.
The reason why Zoro and Sanji’s fruits are less suitable for them is due to the characters’ innate strength levels. Both are already super fighters, so they don’t need the extra power that Devil Fruits bring. To justify his choice of Zoro’s fruit, Oda said that the fruit wouldn’t even go to Zoro, but to his sword because it would be great if his sword could transform become a dragon. This may also be the reason why Oda didn’t give the Fruit to Jinbe, the last of the Straw Hats without any Fruit. Although the Jinbe-based Seraphim did show how he could break One Piece’s power levels if he had the Swim Fruit.
It’s not likely at this point in the series that any of the Straw Hat members mentioned above will gain a Devil Fruit ability. Oda often likes to tie a character’s power-ups to their personal growth or backstory, and suddenly getting a Devil Fruit can feel unworthy compared to how the Straw Hats have become. should be stronger than before. However, this does not detract from the joy of imagining the ramifications of Zoro, nami, sanjiand other Straw Hats of A piece obtain these rights.
