After 10 years of its launch, the manga series My Hero Academia by author Kohei Horikoshi has come to an end with the release of Chapter 430. Eiichiro Oda, the author and illustrator of One Piece, expressed his gratitude to Horikoshi in the latest chapter of the manga series One Piece.
Chapter 1122 of the One Piece manga continues the epic storyline of the “Egghead” arc. The cover features a highly detailed illustration of Smoker the White Hunter. At first glance, the new cover featuring the Marine Vice Admiral may not seem out of the ordinary. However, there is a deeper history behind Smoker’s use that fans of both Shonen Jump series may not know: Oda’s cover for Chapter 1122 is a remake of Horikoshi’s fan art of Smoker from One Piece Volume 77.

One Piece's Eiichiro Oda Mentions My Hero Academia in Chapter 1122 Cover
Volume 77 of One Piece was released on April 3, 2015. During the manga's Q&A section called “SBS”, Oda dedicated a page to Horikoshi, showing how far he has come as a Japanese manga artist. Horikoshi's fan art of Smoker was originally introduced in Volume 23 of One Piece, 10 years after the release of Volume 77, when Horikoshi was just a student. This was also before Horikoshi started working on My Hero Academia for Weekly Shonen Jump.
“He sent me fan art illustrations when he was a student, and now his career as a manga artist IS BLOOMING before our eyes!!!” Oda said. “And not only that, it’s right there on the pages of Jump alongside One Piece!! It’s amazing. He told me himself at the Jump artists’ New Year’s party. You should have told me sooner, so I could cheer you on!!! So if you haven’t read it, check out Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia!!” For the release of Chapter 430 of My Hero Academia, Oda and other prominent Shonen Jump authors paid tribute to Horikoshi for successfully ending his series. Oda also paid tribute to other Shonen Jump series such as Naruto, KochiKame: Tokyo Beat Cops, and Toriko through official One Piece cover artwork.
