Directed by Odd Taxi Baku Kinoshita and screenwriter Kazuya Konomoto teamed up again for a new animated film titled Housenka.
Housenka, created by Konomoto and CLAP production, is one of the featured titles at Annecy 2024's Ongoing Product Line. Annecy describes the plot as follows:
Fall 2023. Akutsu, an elderly prisoner serving a life sentence in prison, is nearing a lonely death in his solitary cell. A flower, without touching me, could talk as humans said to him, “You have had a terrible life.” Through their “conversation,” Akutsu begins to reflect on his past. Summer 1986. Akutsu is living with Nana, a woman six years his junior, and her son Kensuke in a shabby apartment with a garden full of untouched plants. The triumphant overnight return of a dying yakuza and the story of his family are told through a flower blooming in prison.
The only thing shown in the film so far is an image of a man, presumably Akutsu, witnessing fireworks from a house. Annecy lists the running time as 90 minutes.
