Ninja Kamui episode 5 review and recap: Higan is trapped
By far this episode is definitely the most action-packed here, with Higan going all out against her enemies. Last time, when we saw Higan confront Zai, we thought they were going to fight. But that didn’t happen, and the god of death actually left Higan while giving him a curt warning that Higan would die before he could think about Yamaji’s death.
Many things are happening at the same time in this episode, while Higan is waiting to infiltrate AUZA city, Officer Mike is visiting a leader who can help him solve the case. This new informant was a member of the AUZA group and was terminated by them without cause. After being treated like that, he started to have a grudge against the corporation and now he wants to destroy them from within.
But even Mike can’t stay out of trouble, as things don’t look good for him as AUZA’s assassins hunt him down. However, the highlight of this episode is definitely in the city of AUZA, where Higan enters the arena to fight enemies equipped with robot suits. Everyone is rooting for this conflict and no one expects Higan to survive, a sentiment that even Higan agrees with.
This battle is truly breathtaking as we see how powerful Higan, as well as his enemies, are, and it’s really difficult to determine which side will win. We also get a glimpse of Higan’s emotions and realize that he doesn’t really care whether he wins or not, as revenge is the only motivation that keeps him going. He almost devoted himself to finding Yamaji, the main culprit behind his family’s assassination.
But revenge is not easily achieved, and Higan is just a single man against the most powerful corporation in technology and the most talented assassins.
What surprised me was that the ending wasn’t what most people expected. At one point, I thought everything would go as I predicted, but we really fell into a loop with the final surprise.
Identify
We got another extremely enjoyable episode that wasn’t boring or one-dimensional at all.
The ending definitely drove me crazy because I wanted more, and the thought of having to wait another week was just too much. Obviously I’m looking forward to the next episode, because only then will the mystery of the new support vehicle come to light.
