A new anime film adaptation of the Rakudai Ninja Rantaro series has been announced under the title Dokutake Ninja-tai Saikyo no Gunshi. The film will be released in Japanese theaters in December this year. A teaser trailer and images were released as part of the announcement.

Ajia-do Animation Works (Ascendance of a Bookworm, A Sign of Affection), animator of the original Nintama Rantaro anime, is making the film adaptation. Masaya Fujimori directed and Kazuhisa Sakaguchi wrote the script. The original main cast will also return, including:
- Minami Takayama plays Rantaro
- Tanaka Mayumi plays Kirimaru
- Teiyuu Ichiryuusai as Shinbei Fukutomi
- Toshihiko Seki plays Hansuke Doi
The manga series Rakudai Ninja Rantaro is written by Sobe Amako. The manga was serialized by Asahi Shogakusei Shinbun magazine from 1986 to 2019 with 65 volumes. The original anime series, which began airing in April 1993, continues to air as of this writing with over 3,000 episodes. The series also has two film versions: Eiga Nintama Rantaron in 1996 and Gekijo-ban Anime Nintama Rantaro Ninjutsu Gakuen Zenin Shutsudo! No Dan in 2011.

The plot focuses on Rantaro, a teenage ninja student studying at a prestigious ninjutsu academy in ancient Japan. Some elementary school students, known as “Nintama,” join him.
