The fantasy action manga Chained Soldier is being adapted into an anime and is scheduled for release early next year, and in preparation for the release, the first character trailer featuring main character Yuki Wakura has been revealed.
The trailer was posted on YouTube by entertainment company Pony Canyon, providing the first look at the series’ main character. Yuki is a third-year student at Kaminoge High School, but he also joins forces with the head of the Anti-Demon Corps to fight evil. The trailer introduces the anime’s animation and soundtrack, primarily directed by Junji Nishimura (Ranma ½ Nettōhen, Glasslip) and Goro Kuji at studio Seven Arcs, with compositions by Yasuhiro Nakanishi (Kaguya-sama: Love is War, My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999), character design by Hiroyuki Yoshii and music by Kohta Yamamoto (86 Eighty-Six, Attack on Titan: The Final Season).
The manga series, called Mato Seihei no Slave in Japan, has been running since 2019 and is published by Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+. Its plot revolves around a dimension filled with demons called Mato that has now opened up and threatens humanity. In this world, there is a type of peach tree that gives women special powers, giving humanity a chance to survive while establishing a matriarchy in society. As protectors of humanity, women elevate social status, relegating men to the position of second-class citizens.
Main character Yuki Wakura has a younger sister who was captured during the Mato incident five years before the events of the manga. One day, as Yuki is contemplating the hardships of life, an event occurs before his eyes, threatening to claim him like his sister. However, he was saved by Captain Kyouka Uzen of the 7th Anti-Demon Corps.
Kyouka gives Yuki her “slave” powers, transforming Yuki into a powerful beast that can brutally destroy demons. This arrangement comes at a price, but Yuki is not the one who has to pay it; After each transformation, whoever gives Yuki his power must also give him a “reward”. The chained soldier continues to follow Yuki as he risks his life and health to fight monsters known as Shuuki for the Anti-Demon Corps.
Manga fans can look forward to the anime adaptation releasing in January 2024.
