Netflix has revealed more cast for the highly anticipated animated movie Pluto.
Based on the manga by Naoki Urasawa and Takashi Nagasaki, Pluto revisits the future world in Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy series, which focuses on the dark elements of a universe where robots live only to serve humans. As detailed on Crunchyroll, Netflix recently revealed via X (formerly Twitter) seven new cast members for the upcoming anime series who previously appeared in hit productions like Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Attack. on Titan. Pluto will launch on the platform starting October 26.
Dr. Ochanomizu, who was Astro Boy’s friend and mentor in the original Tezuka series, is voiced by Toshio Furukawa, the main voice actor for Piccolo in Dragon Ball Z. Dr. Tenma, creator and father of Astro Boy, played by Eizo Tsuda (The Fairy Gone). Robot Brau-1589 is portrayed by Hideyuki Tanaka, who played Doflamingo in One Piece. Helena is voiced by Romi Park, who previously played Hange Zoe in Attack on Titan. Michio Hazama (Legend of Galactic Heroes) plays Duncan. Dr. Abra and President Alexander are voiced by Kazuhiro Yamaji (Psycho-Pass, One-Punch Man) and Kenyu Horiuchi (Golden Kamuy), respectively. Toshio Kawaguchi (Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke) will direct the film at Studio M2
Originally published between 2003 and 2009, Pluto is a retelling of Astro Boy’s “Greatest Robot on Earth” in which Pluto begins to battle Astro to claim himself as the King of all. Robots. One day, a robotics investigator named Gesicht discovers that an unidentified cyborg has been killing humans, despite the fact that cyborgs usually can’t hurt humans. As he begins to dig deeper into the mystery, he eventually discovers that the murder is just part of a much larger threat lurking around humanity.
Pluto isn’t the only series that Tezuka enthusiasts have to look forward to. Disney+ Japan recently released a new trailer for Phoenix: Eden17, adapted from Tezuka’s iconic Phoenix manga. This comic chronicles the centuries of life and rebirth through the eyes of a number of different protagonists from various historical eras. Eden17 focuses on Romi, the main character in the manga’s “Nostalgia” section, who travels to the main planet to seek refuge for herself and her newborn child. The film is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ for viewers worldwide starting September 13.
Pluto will premiere on Netflix on October 26. VIZ Media publishes the English version of the Pluto manga.
