Voice Actress Emi Shinoharaknown for her role as Kushina Uzumaki in Naruto, has died at the age of 61.
Her talent agency, 81 Produce, made the announcement Tuesday, saying she was undergoing medical treatment for an unspecified illness that was not working.
Shinohara (real name Emiko Watanabe) was born on August 8, 1963 in Fukushima, Prefecture, and grew up mainly in Nagano during her early life.
In addition to Kushina Uzumaki, she is also known for her roles as Sailor Jupiter in Sailor Moon, Tennyo Masaki in the Tenchi-Muyo Ryo Ohki OVA, Presea in the two seasons of Magic Knight Rayearth, Biko “B-Ko” Daitokuji from the Project A-ko anime film and original video anime, Kaho Mizuki in the Card Captor Sakura and Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card series, and Charlotte Elbourne in Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.
Most recently, she played Yuki Izumi's clumsy mother, Motoko Izumi, in Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie in 2022.
In addition to anime dubbing, she has provided Japanese dubbing for many foreign films and television series such as Perdita in 101 Dalmatians: The Series, April O'Neil in the 1987 animated series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Natalie Portman's character Mathilda Lando in Léon: The Professional.
