Masashi Kishimoto created the iconic Naruto manga, which is considered one of the 'Big Three' alongside One Piece and Bleach. The author is also behind the sequel, Boruto Two Blue Vortex, with Mikio Ikemoto handling the manga's art.
To promote Boruto Two Blue Vortex, Kishimoto and Ikemoto recently sat down for an interview where they talked not only about the current series but also the author's previous works.
In the interview, Kishimoto revealed that he regretted not expanding Sakura's relationship with her parents like he did with Naruto and Sasuke.
She is also one of the main characters, but does not receive a story as in-depth as her teammates.
This makes sense, as doing so would contribute a lot to the writing of Sakura. Despite being one of the three main characters, she was once the most hated character in the series. Much of that hatred stemmed from how shallow Sakura was written compared to some of the other main characters.
Expanding and delving deeper into Sakura's relationship with her parents would give the female ninja a different role, beyond just being a weaker teammate to Naruto and Sasuke. Even though Sakura has become much stronger (in fact, the strongest female character by the end of the movie), she still can't match her two teammates.
This, coupled with the messy romantic triangle between the three, has earned Haruno Sakura intense hatred from fans.
Perhaps if she were told a more detailed story, viewers could sympathize and love her more.
Following the author's confession, fans are now demanding to see it happen. As one Naruto fan commented: “Kishimoto, please do a novel about Sakura, focusing on her past story. It's never too late.”
Another person also expressed: “Is there still time to do so? Personally, I'd love to see more stories about Sakura.”
Since Kishimoto is busy with Boruto Two Blue Vortex, we probably won't be getting any information about Sakura's own story anytime soon.
